Tips & Tricks 1 Lesson by Stallion Tips & Tricks 1 In these lessons I will try to describe some of the most common tricks on the guitar. It will be in levels from beginner to advanced. Some of them might seem very obvious for some of you, but Iīll put them up anyway:) Iīm also happy to take requests or suggestions for what I should bring in to these lessons! Send them to: ken@countrytabs.com These following tricks are just small details, but they can add some feeling to your playing. It will hopefully also give you a feeling of better control over your guitar. 1. Bending This is probably the most common technique, but there is a couple of different ways to do it. From my experience the best one is to bend the string by pushing in towards you.Example: If you bend an A on the 3. string you will hold the the tone and push the string towards the 4. string. You can also use the bend to add dynamic to a single tone by bending just 1/4 or 1/2 step up. Often used right before a pull off. 2. Neck bending This technique is only necessary to do on guitars without a vib. arm. (Ex. Fender Telecaster) It is used to bend a tone a step down. (Specially on open strings) Just grab the neck with one hand and hold your pick hand on the guitar body and bend the neck from you. PS! Be careful if you got and old or fragile guitar. Try it only on an electric guitar. 3. Artificial "pinch" harmonic This sounds almost like a harmonic but you can do it with any tone you want. It doesīnt matter what you play at the neck. Itīs really the pick hand that does the work. The pick hand produces the harmonic by squeezing the pick while using the tip of the index finger in the pick attack. It will kind of mute the string but you have to find the right place on the string to do the pick. It will be different on all guitars, so you just have to experiment. In the beginning itīs easier to find with distortion or overdrive. 4. Bending |
