Picking exercises to build speed and co-ordination Lesson by axehappy
OK, here's a short lesson on picking and how best to practice it to
improve co-ordination and speed.
These are some exercises I wrote especially for this lesson,
EXCLUSIVE to Countrytabs.com....lol
ENJOY!!!

Throughout this lesson, ^ = downstroke (away from you)
                        .  =  upstroke     (towards you)

Example 1
----------

C Major scale...
I've put the notes in different order to the normal straightforward
scale so that you have to pick a bit more to play it.
This will improve your co-ordination and speed (if you play it fast!)

   ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^
E--------------------------------------------------------------|
B--------------------------------------0-----0-1---0-1-3-0-1---|
G----------------------0-----0-2---0-2---0-2-----2-------------|
D----0-2---0-2-3-0-2-3---2-3-----3-----------------------------|
A--3-----3-----------------------------------------------------|
E--------------------------------------------------------------|

Example 2
----------

Here's the same thing using the G Major scale...

   ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^ . ^
E--------------------------------------------0---2-3---|
B--------------------------------0---1-0-3-1---3-------|
G------------------------0---2-0---2-------------------|
D------------0---2-0-4-2---4---------------------------|
A----2-0-3-2---3---------------------------------------|
E--3---------------------------------------------------|

Example 3
----------

OK, here's a lesson using dimished chords which will improve your
finger co-ordination and pick control...
I've included the fingering for these as well, as if you don't play
it properly, it is unnecessarily (sp?) difficult.
Try to build it up to play it as fast as you can, it will greatly
improve your lead playing, as your fingers will start to go straight
where you want them to!
