She'd be (F)(hold)back, drinkin' whiskey from a (D7)(hold)water glass,
Just (C)laughing like a sailor on a (A)three-day pass.

Yeah, I (C)met her when I was runnin' about, and no(F)body seemed to care for me. (C)
She took me (A)to her side, and ex(D7)plained the facts of life to (G7)me.
She (C)(hold)told me 'bout the world and all its (E7)(hold)misery,
She (F)(hold)showed me how to laugh and be a (D7)(hold)friend indeed,
And (C)let the sanctimonious crowds (A)go their way.
(D)Gertrude had a (G)way with (C)alright, al(G)right now
