This is the first tab of this on the net, and probably the first
attempt at transcribing the lyrics, too, hence some ridiculous
lines within. Corrections and comments appreciated as always.

CAPO 3

Intro: E | Dsus2 | E | Dsus2

E Dsus2
My father was a farmer,
E Dsus2
but his head was in the sky.
E Dsus2
He worked every day but Sunday
                A Dsus2 | A
till the day he died.

E Dsus2
He prayed for rain and thunder,
E Dsus2
and listened for the sound.
E Dsus2
In the dry years he went under,
                     A Dsus2 | A
he never got off the ground.

E Dsus2
We all dream when we're younger
E Dsus2
that we will to great things.
E Dsus2
Me, I used to have a hunger.
                  A Dsus2 | A
to wear a pilot's wings.

Mando solo: E | Dsus2 | E | Dsus2 | E | Dsus2 | A | Dsus2 | A

E Dsus2
But the circles that I ran in
E Dsus2
turned my head around,
E Dsus2
and the planes I had my plans in
                  A Dsus2 | A
never got off the ground.

C
Don't raise your hopes;
    A
you hear so many say
     C
"The higher they get,
    G E Dsus2 A
the closer they are to fly-ing away."

E Dsus2 A
Fly high away!

Fiddle solo: E | Dsus2 | E | Dsus2 | E | Dsus2 | A | Dsus2 | A

C
Don't raise your hopes;
    A
you hear so many say
     C
"The higher they get,
    G E Dsus2 A
the closer they are to fly-ing away."

E Dsus2
They say they're but for fortune,
E Dsus2
is the way it would have been
E Dsus2
if we could take a bigger portion,
                    A Dsus2 | A
and fill our hands again.

E Dsus2
You see them on the sidewalks
E Dsus2
in the parks all over town;
E Dsus2
those who've taken flight,
    E Dsus
but never got off the ground.

Outro: A | Dsus2 | A | Dsus2 | A | Dsus2 | A

Where can I find this song on a record? Thanks
-mvitrone1 | 7/6/2005
This song's on the band's record exclusively for Cracker Barrel. I think it's called 'Home On The Road' or something like that. More info on the AKUS web site in the news section.

Actually the song was first on "Forget About It". Good job though Daniel
-p8nter21 | 7/9/2005
Haha thanks for the info :-)

Great tab. I bought the "Forget About It" CD back in 2000 and have been looking for this tab since. One correction on the lyrics. In the seventh line you have "In the dryers he went under" it should be "dry years" as in a drought.
-orion777 | 1/6/2006
Aah thanks orion! That actually makes sense, since he's a farmer 'nall. :-)
