John J. Blanchard - Anthony Smith
Album: If That Ain't Country
Writers: Anthony Smith/Chris Wallin

**Capo 2** (or see below for no capo chords)

Intro: D G C G (x2)

          D G
He had a stroke in '95
                 D G D G C G
They thought it best that he reside, in a nursing home
            D G
The family vowed they'd never leave him
          D G D G
The last time they came to see him, was three years ago
              D G
He spent his whole life providin'
            D G D G C G
Now he was down to relyin’, on Medicare
            D G
The nurses took a liking to him
                 D G D G
They'd get his wheelchair out and push him, on sunny days
             A C
He couldn't walk, he couldn't speak, seemed so far out of reach
            G A
But in his mind as far as they knew he could be

Chorus:
 D G D G
Fly fishin', workin' on that firebird engine
        D G D G
Runnin' 99 proof moonshine across that county line
    D G D G
3,2,1 and ignition, off on some space shuttle mission
        D G D G
Playin' QB for the Cowboys, gettin' high on the crowd noise
         A
And the bright lights
              C A
Cause deep inside things were rockin' in the mind
             D G D G
Of John J. Blanchard

     D G
One afternoon in June
         D G D G C G
A nurse saw his finger move, about had a heart attack
           D G
She went screamin' down the hall
             D G D G
Hey, it's a miracle ya'll, I think he's comin' back
     A C
The doctors all rushed in, said do you know what year this is
           G A Asus4 Asus5
How many fingers am I holding and where've you been....

and he said

Chorus:
 D G D G
Fly fishin', workin' on that firebird engine
        D G D G
Runnin' 99 proof moonshine across that county line
    D G D G
3,2,1 and ignition, off on some space shuttle mission
        D G D G
Playin' QB for the Cowboys, gettin' high on the crowd noise
         A
And the bright lights
               C A
Yeah all this time things were rockin' in the mind
             D
Of John J. Blanchard

Not to doubt Shantel, but it doesn't sound like the recording? I'm
a beginner, but did he re-tune his guitar or something? I can't find
the right key, capo or not. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe you dont have the timing down right--I think it sounds fine.
It did sound bad the first few times, but put on headphones and
listen to it while playing it, and you can hear where you need to
change.

Good job Shantel!

There are 2 versions of this song.
Try the capo on the 5th fret but the radio version is the 2nd.
Also a lot of the C chords are C9.
