Jesus Take The Wheel - Carrie Underwood
Written by: Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson and Brett James

Note - I added a soundbyte of me playing this if you are having trouble
figuring out where to play the chords. It's a little tricky. Please excuse
me not being able to sing as high as Carrie on the chorus!!
If you are a non-paying member and would like the soundbyte email me:

**Capo 2nd fret**

G/B = x2003x or X20003

Intro: C G/B Am7 G/B (x2)

         C G/B
She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati
     Am7 G/B
On a snow white Christmas Eve
C G/B
Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy
         Am7 G/B
With the baby in the backseat
      C G/B Am7 G/B
Fifty miles to go and she was running low on faith and gasoline
             F
It'd been a long hard year

           C G/B
She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention
        Am7 G/B
She was going way too fast
C G/B
Before she knew it she was spinning
      Am7 G/B
On a thin black sheet of glass
         C G/B
She saw both their lives flash before her eyes
Am7 G/B
She didn't even have time to cry
         F C
She was so scared, she threw her hands up in the air

Chorus:
                G
Jesus take the wheel
                 D
Take it from my hands
                      Am G/B C
Cause I can't do this on my own
            G
I'm letting go
                      D
So give me one more chance
                   Am G/B C
Save me from this road I'm on
                 C G/B Am7 G/B C G/B F
Jesus take the wheel

         C G/B
It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder
        Am7 G/B
And the car came to a stop
      C G/B
She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat
Am7 G/B
Sleeping like a rock
             C G/B
And for the first time in a long time
     Am7 G/B
She bowed her head to pray
              F C
She said I'm sorry for the way I've been living my life
   F C
I know I've got to change, so from now on tonight

Chorus:
                G
Jesus take the wheel
                 D
Take it from my hands
                      Am G/B C
Cause I can't do this on my own
            G
I'm letting go
                      D
So give me one more chance
                   Am G/B C
Save me from this road I'm on
                G D Am C
Jesus take the wheel.........

                G
Ohh I'm letting go
                      D
So give me one more chance
                   Am G/B C
Save me from this road I'm on
           Am G/B C
From this road I'm on
                 C G/B Am7
Jesus take the wheel
G/B C G/B
Oh, take it, take it from me
Am7 G/B C G/B Am7 G/B C G/B F
Oh...., whoa oh.............

I'm not sure but do you think the first..."road I'm on"... in the chorus is Am D C and then the second is Am G/B C? Tell me what you think.
-tigerz | 10/27/2005
They're similar sounding but I'm pretty sure about hearing the B bass note so I think it's G/B

love the sound byte... good job

Great job as usual. Really enjoyed the sound byte. I think it would be interesting to hear you and Jamie Painter sing something together. Just a thought.

Perfect as always Shantel.

WOW! Im not a big fan of American Idol, or really Carrie Underwood, but i do like this song and I must say you should try giving American idol a chance. And I think you could hit them high notes, if you can hit that one par "Im Letting go" I think you could hit it easily. I mean you did hit it by singing duh duh duh duh or whatever lol, you sound fantastic singing this.
Your voice sounds alot liek that of Sheryl Crows back when she first started.

Hey thanks for the compliment madtabber, I actually did try out for Canadian Idol and got close to making it but messed it up by being too nervous. I'm gonna try this year (my last before I am "too old" lol)

Carrie does have one heck of a range, she's an amazing singer, gotta give her props.

where is the sound byte....sorry im new to this site...
-bernt | 1/14/2006
I beg to differ with you on the chorus. Not Am-G/B-C. Should be Am-Bm7-C. Also you're missing the C sus in several spots. Other than that it sounds great. I never would have figured it out with the capo. The G/B would have totally thrown me. Thanks
