A E7 F#m D7
Hello there my old friend, not so long ago it was still the end
A E7 F#min D7
late outside in the pouring rain on our way up the road we started over again
F#m D7 E7
living a dream as though you're on top
F#m D7 E7
my mind is aching Lord it won't stop
F#m D7 E7 A
that's how it happened living life by the drop

Up and down the road in our worn out shoes
talking about good things and singing the blues
you went your way and I stayed behind
we both knew it was just a matter of time
living a dream as though you're on top
my mind is aching Lord it won't stop
that's how it happens living life by the drop

No waste of time we ??...?? the day
turning up the past, there's no easier way
time's been between us a means to an end
God, it's good to be here, walking together my friend
living a dream as though you're on top
my mind starts thinking Lord it won't stop
that's how it happened living life by the drop
that's how it happened living life by the drop

I just cleaned the other tab up a little bit so that it was easier to read. :)

Songwriter was actually Doyle Bramhall. Matter of fact, he has
released a version of him doing it that is getting pretty
heavy airplay on the radio...

Use a D and E instead of D7 and E7 on the verse "That's how it happens...".
I beleive it sounds better that way. The questionable lyrics are
"No wasted time,we're alive today, churnin' up the past there's no easier way"
Awesome SRV tune!

it appears the solo stays within this pattern
E 0-2
B 0-2-4
G 2-4
D 2-4
A 2-4
E

and that little fill after living our dreams... sounds like this
E 0 0
B 0 2 0 2
G 2h4 2 2h4 4
D
A
E

hope this helps

The first line of the last verse is No wasted time we're alive today, in case anyone wanted that

I may be wrong but I believe that Stevie Ray Vaughn wrote this song.
-TXCBullfrog | 3/25/2004
Stevie did write it. It's about his struggle with alcohol and how it messed his life up. Cody did a cover of it at the Wormy Dog several years ago.
-azleredneck | 4/11/2004
not sure if that is correct Doyle Bramhall
wrote most of his stuff
-Delta_Shanty | 5/8/2004
vaughn didn't write it the other guy wrote it about his friend stevie who at the time had a drinkin problem.
