Have You Forgotten - Darryl Worley

I got this from his performance on the Grand Ole Opry,
I'm not sure if the radio version is different or not.

Intro: G C9 (x2)

G
I hear people sayin' we don't need this war
                                 C9
I say there's some things worth fighting for
G
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
                             C9
We didn't get to keep em by backin' down
     D C G/B
Now they say we don't realize the mess we're gettin' in
Am G/B C D
Before you start to preachin' let me ask you this my friend

Chorus:
             G D
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
             C
To see your homeland under fire
         D
And our people blown away
             G D
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
G/B C D
We had neighbors still inside going through a living hell
         C D
And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden
             G C9
Have you forgotten

Verse 2:
They took all the footage off my TV
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country's just out lookin' for a fight
Well after 9/11, man I'd have to say that's right

CHORUS

Instrumental: G C9 (x2)

         D C
Now I've been there with the soldiers who've gone away to war
            Am G/B C D
And you can bet that they remember just what they're fighting for

Chorus 2:
Have you forgotten all the people killed
Yeah some went down like heroes
In that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon
Yeah all the love ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry bout Bin Laden

REPEAT 1ST CHORUS

So many people in the lime light are standing against this war and
also our government. I have been waiting to see if some one in
country music would speek up or write somthing that say's it all and
this song more than doe's that!!!!!!! GREAT TAB.
-bobby3811 | 3/2/2003
Good Job Shantel. I'm a US Marine and I've been
hoping someone was gonna tab out this song.
His words are right on the money...
SEMPER FI and God Bless The USA!
-AberFitch | 3/3/2003
Great job girl this song is right on.nice one
so many stars are afraid they will offend someone.
About time someone stood up and laid the blame where
it belongs.and no we havent forgot. usa, usa, usa.
-alvarez | 3/7/2003
HOOAH job my friend ... as a soldier preparing for war, we need to
stand together and NEVER forget .... guitar_man_wi@yahoo.com
-guitarmanwi | 3/7/2003
Your are my hero
-WMPLRADIO | 3/8/2003
Cowboy up, thanks for this
-warrior | 3/9/2003
I lost my brother on Sept 11 in the WTC
and when I see people protesting this war
I just don't understand them. This song is
just all too perfect to describe my feelings.
I'm proud to live in the land heroes are made.
Thanks for the song.
-jwillnu | 3/10/2003
lets gop kick osama's butt!
rock on shantel!!
HOOAH!
-duke1b | 3/10/2003
i have to say more!
I wanna thank all the soldiers out there fighting for my freedom!
9/11 has really made me wanna go kick someones butt! i wanna stick a
shotgun up osamas butt and i hope u fine soldiers will do it for me!
HOOAH! and SEMPER FI! and ROCK ON BUSHIE!
-duke1b | 3/10/2003
yeapn I agree with everyone else this song explains it all. Those
protesters we need to send them over. What they did to us we could
never come close to paying them back. And all you soldiers out there
you have my support 110% take a few out for me. Ive got a cousin and
a few friends over there or getting ready to be deployed and Bush
you couldnt ask for a better president someone who will stand up for
the US unlike others weve had. Good luck to all the soldiers out
there and be safe
-HARDT0303 | 3/10/2003
I've had so many requests for this song in the clubs I play i DL'ed
14 tabs, this one is the best. Now all I have to do is learn to play
it without getting choked up. I'm a desert storm vet. To any of my
brothers in arms who may read my words...Know this... We are the
best trained and most lethal fighting force in the world, My prayers
are with you daily.

-alvrez | 3/12/2003
rock on alvrez ur right!
go USA! SEMPER FI, HOOAH! osama is a butt!!!
-duke1b | 3/12/2003
Excellent job, Shantel...I started to tab this last night and got
all the way through before I realized you had already done it and lo
and behold, we had the exact chords (I had different names for them
but still the fingerings were the same). Way to go girl!!!
-lmofle | 3/13/2003
I requested this song about a month ago or so. I'm glad somebody figured
it out bc i've been working on it and this is not what I had. This is
better. GOOD JOB
-guitarman1011 | 3/13/2003
The G9 is actually just a variation on G, but
I have listened to the recording over and
over and the C9 is definitely C9. I can hear
the D note in the chord. That's on both the
recording and the Grand Ole Opry version.
-Ralphie | 3/16/2003
I'd just like to say last week I sat here thinking there must be a
hiddin motive that I was'nt seeing being religious or what ever.I
had not heard the song I ran across the lyric's and wrote them
down.I finally heard the song today and as i sit here trying to
write through tears.I'm ashamed for thinking we ever needed another
reason.GOD BLESS AMERICA.Dave
-lazydave | 3/17/2003
I agree with everyone. People don't understand anymore that for
freedome we have to pay a price just like the generations before us
and it kills me that we cant seem to get support from some
people...especially the people in our own country. Freedom isnt free
and ive been thinkin im the only male in my family so if they
reinstate the draft i dont have to go but its my choice and i choose
to fight for my freedom.
-chapelhill03 | 3/18/2003
I agree with this song 110%. People gripe about how Bush is handling
things, but if he handled them the other way,and didn't go to war,
then people would gripe, too. I think Bush is doing the right thing.
Nothing is free. You have to get everything somehow, and anything
worth having, is worth fighting for.So, let's fight for freedom! If I
could, I'd take the honor of shoving a shotgun up Hussein and bin
Laden's butts; but since I can't, I hope the US soldiers do it for
me. We couldn't ask for better fighters, and we couldn't ask for a
better president! Good Luck soldiers and GOD BLESS AMERICA! 13 bars
and 50 stars, back off yall ... AMERICA'S OURS! and we're going to
defend it!
-countrygirl11 | 3/19/2003
THIS SONG SAY'S IT ALL!! I THINK DARRYL SUMED IT ALL UP.. YA EVERYONE
WANTED TO KILL OSAMA WHEN 9/11 HAPPENED BUT NOW THEY WANT TO PROTEST
FOR WHAT.. IF NOT FOR OUR SOLDIERS GOING TO WHOOP AZZ BEFORE THEY
WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PROTEST SO MAYBE THEY NEED TO TAKE SOME HISTORY
LESSONS...
-ABERNATHY_AU | 3/19/2003
this song will always be remembered because it reminds us that we
forget so quickly and take everything for granted. I am a fireman
and our brotherhood lost over 300 in a matter of minutes. To all our
troops in Iraq, THANK YOU!!!! Do what needs to be done and myself
and the other firefighters across this land will take care of things
back here!
-dlanphere | 4/1/2003
Great job on a great song.
-bocefus1 | 4/3/2003
good tab shantel. I have a retired Navy Seal cousin who served in
the Desert Storm conflict back in 1991. And I also hate these
protestors. If we were to be attacked by Saddam Hussein tommorrow,
the same guys that are protesting the war with Iraq would be the same
one's to be arguing with Bush about why didn't we do this sooner.
This is a messed up world, and how people forget about Sep 11, is
beyond me. Darryl says it like it needs to be said in this great
song and I hope all our troops come back very soon and safe.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!
-guitar g | 4/6/2003
Ok, now if you don't like the song, raise your hand...lol.

good job, great song.
-xdrewx | 4/16/2003
I'm 48 years old, and I still get tearie eyed when i hear it. I am
getting into a full tear thing now from reading. Great Job lady!

I was at the WTC site the Friday before interviewing for a job. If
the attacks were another week off, I could have been inside that
infuerno. God Bless You Both -Shantel and Worley.
-eric_steinmetz | 4/16/2003
This is one of the greates songs Ive heard on
the radio lately, and this is a great tab, by
the way. Im currently not old enuff to be in
the military, but let me tell you as soon as
I am, you'll see me right there with our boys,
fighting for american freedom. this song
basically sums up my whole views on the
war and my opinions on our president. If
you ask me, he's a great man, a good
christian, and a magnificent leader. we
should stand beside him, because he really
knows what it means to be an american.
-dustybaker | 4/23/2003
I love this song, and I love the patriotic feelings. GO USA!!! HOOAH!
-chef13007 | 4/28/2003
I am retired military and I think this hits close to home.
I have found that people forget why we are fighting.
I hope all the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen make
it home safe.

As a Brit I can't help but be moved by such powerful songs as COTRW&B
and Have You Forgotten.Darryl Worley has ensured that the tragic
events of 9/11 won't ever be forgotten as well as the anger and
pride of a wounded nation that was stirred as a result of the terror
inflicted on that black day.

Good on both Toby and Darryl for publicly putting their careers on
the line and standing up to be counted.

Incidentally, I love both songs and play them regularly here in
England to friends etc.

God Bless America (and all those British and American servicemen who
fought for their flags and nations who sadly won't be going home).
-Countrydudeuk | 4/29/2003
There are some that will have you belive that we don't need this

war. Then again everybody's ignorant just about diffrent subjects.

I just joined the navy and this song is one of the reasons it made

me think and remember how it felt. Many had children to care for

friends and loved ones were lost that day, and were just supposed to

not care. NO! I am against war too but not for a just cause. I am

saying that we live in a nation where we're all free to choose. Some

are against war but I hope we all support our fathers and fore

fathers because they have given us somthing that no one can take

away. That's why we fight today for a better future for our sons

Thanks to Great Brittan, and god bless yours and our troops.
-Ruba_bob | 5/11/2003
Hey what everyone has said is everything i think. great job girl you
rock. i havent seen this many comments saying that it is perfect on
this site. i am a sniper in the U.S. Marines and want to say thank
you from everyone in my platoon.
-MattMoore | 5/30/2003
GREAT JOB ON THE SONG SHANTEL, WE NEED MORE FINE AMERICANS TO STAND
UP FOR OUR FREEDOM, AND MAKE A DIFFERANCE IN OUR COUNTRY.
IM A FIREMAN AND A MEMBER OF THE IAFF. WE LOST ALOT OF BROTHERS
ON 9-11 AND JUST GETTING THIS SONG OUT THERE WILL BE THE CONSTANT
REMINDER OF THE ROOT OF THIS WAR.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS FIGHTING FOR THE CAUSE. HOOAH.

This is one of the most ignorant songs in the history of recorded
music. As a remembrance of 9/11 it's pretty standard - but it's more
of a song about supporting the war in Iraq than it is about 9/11.
All it does is perpetuate the myth that 9/11 and the war in Iraq are
somehow related - what we're fighting for in Iraq has absolutely
nothing to do with 9/11 or Bin Laden.
-semitop10 | 1/30/2004
Hey before I start i just wanna remind yas im and aussie. I havnt
heard the song yet but apperently its great. Just reading through the
tabs it brings a stir to my heart. Thank god for people like darryl
and toby and others who stand up for us and deliver the messg time
and time again. God bless George Bush, John Howard, Tony Blair, and
every single one of the men and women that make up the coalition of
the willing forces fighting for the freedom of the world. My prayers
are with each and everyone of your american brothers, sisters,
mothers and fathers, uncles aunites and friends. I hope yours are
with my countrys men too, as we are now truly a international family.
Once again great song and my best wishes too all!
-wrangler_man | 7/9/2004
hey i just wanted to thank all of the soldiers fighting for us
-beau325 | 8/14/2004
Thanks for tabing this song... every DAC concert I've been to has been a near religious experience! I like the old songs & the new songs & it's cool that the man doesn't just sit back & depend on 20 year old music to carry him along. Long live David Allan Coe & remember..." RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT"!

Sorry, this is a nice song, it's cute, but the best patriotic song ever written was "God Bless The U.S.A." by Lee Greenwood. This one doesn't deserve to be on the same music stand.

America and the war rocks though, I'm all in favor of it. This song just sucks, overall, in my opinion. It feels written to make money, not from feeling.

Okay, blast away. rolling eyes> ;D

By the way, sorry, good tab. I'm playing this song for a patriotic show this weekend, and it's right on. Nice one, Shantel.
-Smoothie7745 | 6/2/2005
well smoothie . . i must disagree . . . i think this song was written from the heart . . . I cant get through the chorus without tearing up . . . still, to this day . . . thanx Darryl, . . and you too shantel, as always your the best
-singlecarpenter | 7/10/2005
I also think this song was written from darryl's heart. remember, he visted the soldiers before writting it. i love this song and thanks for tabbin' it Shantel, and for writting it darryl
-TCtrumpeter08 | 8/18/2005
It has taken until this week to blow Bin Laden straight to hell where he belongs...this song has had a lot of radio play in the past 48 hours and it has stood the test of time and is still as valid and moving as when it was first written. God Bless you and God Bless the United States of America.
