Essentially the chord I listed is a G shape with the top and bottom string open. It's the picking patterrn that was on an acoustic version Dierks played a few years ago when the song first came out. Em fits perfectly when strumming chords but doesn't include the D note in the pattern. Play whichever you wish...I find it easier to play the open G shape because it's less movement back to the G and allows more freedom to pick. Most times I play the shape I listed and avoid playing the bottom half of the chord when strumming...that way you are only lifting your middle finger on and off the 6th string when you transfer. Sounds the same as Em but again play whichever you prefer...they should sound similar. -CKirschner07 | 8/3/2012 |
