A Jukebox With A Country Song
Doug Stone
Album: Doug Stone - Super Hits

D
After three good years together,
    G D
We had our first big fight

So she went to her mother's
    Em A7
And I went for a drive

D
Down that old familiar highway,
                         G
Just a few miles out of town
                           D
To that run-down one-room tavern
             A7 D
That used to be my stompin' grounds

D
When I pulled into the driveway
             G D
You know it all still looked the same

And I couldn't wait to down a few
     Em A7
And hear that jukebox ring

             D
But when I walked in through the doorway
                               G
There stood some kind of Matre D
                              D A7
And he looked me up, and he looked me down, and said,
                  D
"Can I help you please?"

(And I said)

chorus:
D G
What'd you do with those swingin' doors?
                    D
And where's the sawdust on the floor?
                          A7
Why's everybody wearin' suits and ties?
                              D
From where I stand I can't believe my eyes

D G
And whose idea was it to hang these ferns?
                                  D
This brand-new bar don't have a single burn
                              A7
I guess I'm somewhere that I don't belong
                           G D
I need a juke box with a country song

D
When I looked into the corner
            G D
Where the jukebox once stood proud

Some clown was playin' records...
     Em A7
Too fast, too long, and too loud

        D
And it must have been a big mistake
                    G
To try to speak my mind
                       D
So as they were askin' me to leave
   A7 D
I cried out one more time...

(repeat chorus)

              A7
...I guess I don't belong

                          G D
Without a jukebox and a country song

Ray, thanks for posting this song. You did a great job. Sounds excellent. The only thing is that I think A sounds better than A7, but you did better than I can. I don't know how you guys get it by ear like that, but I appreciate it.
