Capo on 3!!!!!

C= x32013
D= xx0232
G= 320033
Em= 022000
G/F#= 2x0033

Eric uses a lot of hammer on's and pull off's within chords during this song.
Simply put
-C chord hammer on and off the second fret of the D string
-D chord, using the top E string play it regular first then hammer on the third
fret, pull off back to the second and then release your finger on the second fret
so the top E string is open, just play around with that till you like it..
-G chord- you dont have to do this one, but he hammers on and off the second fret
of the A string

C D G
I remember waiting by the curb with Mr. Murphy
C D G
When daddy picked me up from school his eyes were red
C D Em
We drove to the hospital in a hurry
C D
Where my family gathered around my Grandpa's bed

C
he was my best friend
Em
he taught me how to fish
G D C
and i cried listening to my daddy pray
                      D G
for one of those i've loved along the way

C D G
She had a ribbon in her hair the day I met her
C D G
That whole next year we couldn't get enough
C D Em
And after graduation she took off for Denver
C D
For awhile we both tried to keep in touch

C
She was my best friend
Em
and it broke my heart
G D C
but i dont regret the day she became
                  D G
one of those i've loved along the way

D
And i hope they know
C D
I never would have made it this far on my own
C G G/F# Em
where would we all would be without those fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers
C Em D
the friends i've made, the long lost lovers
C D Em
I wouldn't be who I am today
C D Em
If not for those i've loved along the way
C Em
Along the way... C.........D.....

C D G
Now I'm just a country boy with a guitar
C D G
Looking back down this old road i've travled on
C D Em
It was never about trying to be some big star
C D
For me it's always been about these songs
C
See their my best friends
Em
they're the life I lead
G D D C
And i hope they put a smile on your face
C D Em
Those that i've loved along the way
C D Em
Caus I wouldn't be the man I am today
C D G
If not for those i've loved along the way

Thanks for tabbing this song. I saw Eric do this at the Cannery Ballroom in Nashville last night. I think it is the best song on the album. (Which is an awesome album BTW!)

anybody get the picking pattern to this song. I think it makes it sound a lot better

I think it sounds great but one thing I think needs a liitle change:

"...without those (G) fathers and (G/F#) mothers, (Em) sisters and brothers"

The only change was I added an Em because you are walking down from the G. Tell me what you think. Thanks
