THE NIGHT I CALLED THE OLD MAN OUT
Garth Brooks

Key of F#m

Intro

The (F#m) dining room fell silent
I can't (E) believe what I just said
I just (F#m) told my dad he's full of it
And, I (C#7) watched his face turn red
Well, then I (F#m) should've said I'm sorry
But, I (D) matched him shout for shout
I can (Bm) still hear that screen door slammin'
The (C#7) night I called him (F#m) out

He (E/G#) said
(A) "Son, it's gonna (E) hurt me
(D) More than it hurts (F#m) you"
Some(Bm)how I couldn't (E) help but have my (C#7) doubts
'Cause I'd (A) seen my older (E) brothers
(D) Crawl back in the (F#m) house
Each (D) time they called the (E) old man (F#m) out

(F#m) Fist to fist and eye to eye
(E) Standin' toe to toe
He (F#m) would've let me walk away
But, I (C#7) would not let it go
(F#m) Years of my frustration
Had (D) lead me to this night
Now, (Bm) he'll pay for all the (C#7) times
That he's been (F#m) right

He (E/G#) said
(A) "Son, it's gonna (E) hurt me
(D) More than it hurts (F#m) you"
Some(Bm)how I couldn't (E) help but have my (C#7) doubts
'Cause I'd (A) seen my older (E) brothers
(D) Crawl back in the (F#m) house
Each (D) time they called the (E) old man (F#m) out

It was (F#m) over in a minute
That's (E) when I realized
The (F#m) blood came from my mouth and nose
But, the (C#7) tears came from his eyes
And in (F#m) memory of that fateful night
I knew the (D) greatest pain was his
And I just (Bm) pray someday
I'm (C#7) half the man he (F#m) is

He (E/G#) said
(A) "Son, it's gonna (E) hurt me
(D) More than it hurts (F#m) you"
Some(Bm)how I couldn't (E) help but have my (C#7) doubts
'Cause I'd (A) seen my older (E) brothers
(D) Crawl back in the (F#m) house
Each (D) time they called the (E) old man (F#m) out
He (E/G#) said
(A) "Son, it's gonna (E) hurt me
(D) More than it hurts (F#m) you"
Some(Bm)how I couldn't (E) help but have my (C#7) doubts
'Cause I'd (A) seen my older (E) brothers
(D) Crawl back in the (F#m) house
Each (D) time they called the (E) old man (F#m) out

I love the sound of that C#m7....I've been playing this with the CAPO on the second fret and it makes it a hell of a lot easier if you are really used to root chords

WildCard, I like what you post on here, and I love this song. Wish it had been a hit. My only issue is that I have trouble with some of those chords. Do you have what the chords would be if I wanted to use a capo?
