Song: What would Willie Do?
Written by: Bruce Robison
Performed by: Gary Allan
Album: Alright Guy

*------------>CAPO 4----------------*

I just use a simple PIMIAIMI finger picking pattern for entire song.
I think this sounds really close. Let me know what y'all think. Thanks!

CHORDS (relative to the capo)
        D XX0232
        G 320033
        A X02220

      D
I was lost in trouble and strife,
          G
I heard a voice and it changed my life.
D A
Now it's a brand new day and I ain't afraid to say,
           D
You're not alone when you're down and out
      G
And I think you know who I'm talking about.
D A
When I don't know how I'll get through, I ask myself,
G A D
"What Would Willie Do?"

D
What would Willie do? Well he'd travel so far
     G
With nothing but a song and his old guitar
      D
And a tour bus and some semi-trucks,
       A
Thirty crewman and a little bit of luck.
              D
Well he loves all the people, the ugly and the randy.
G
If you don't believe me, take a look at the family
    D
And they'll tell you that it's true.
A G A D
When skies are gray, what would Willie do?

     D
Well long ago, well he came unto us.
G
His words were simple but they went right through us.
        D
And the whole world sang along,
         A
But then they didn't want to hear his songs.
       D
He was gone, And we thought we'd lost him
       G
But he grew his hair and he moved to Austin.
    D
And all of the people smiled.
     A
They came to hear him sing from miles.
       G A
Like a miracle, all those rednecks and hippies,
     D G
From New York City down to Mississippi
D
Stood together and raised a brew.
A G A D
When it's all gone wrong, What would Willie do?

D
You know, sometimes I wonder when I ain't gettin' nowhere,
G
What would old Willie do when it all gets too much to
      D A
bear? And I can see him on his lonely old tour bus. He's
                                      D
got his problems just like any of us. Well he'd just take
                                           G
a deep breath and then he'd let it all go. And he'd take
                                       D
another deep breath and let it all go. Then he'd take
                               A
another deep breath...and he'd hold it. Ahhh, and I bet
          D G
he'd feel hungry in a way that seems strange. Yeah, hungry
                                         D
for all the things he just can't change. Like the time he

passed out in his own bedroom and his wife sewed him up in
           A
the sheets and beat him with a broom and he forgave her.
D
And you think that's rough, well then the IRS came and
G
they took away all of his stuff. They took away his golf
                         D
course and his recording studio, and well he just went out
                    A
and did another show.

             G A G
So when it's all coming down on you, better ask yourself,
G A D
"What would Willie do?"

D
What would Willie do, well he'd take a little time,
    G
And talk to old rooster as he'd drive on down the line.
            D
And there's millions down that road,
       A
With a word he's gonna lighten their load.
         D
He loves all the people no matter their races,
        G
Hell he even had a hit country song with Julio Iglesias
    D A
And that ain't easy to do, so when it's all too much,
G A D
What would Willie...when the game gets tough,
G A D
What would Willie....when they call your bluff,
G A D
What would Willie do?

Im new at all of this...What is a PIMIAMI picking pattern? Hope thats not a stupid question.
-crsuggs | 1/27/2005
Crscruggs...Not a stupid question at all bro.
I PM'ed you with an explanation
so check out your Private Messages when you
get the chance. The link's on the left hand
side. But basically the PIMIAMI picking pattern
is a very basic finger picking pattern. Each letter
represents a finger. P is for your thumb,
I for the index (or pointer finger--
whichever you call it), M is for middle and
A is for the ring finger. Your thumb is
responsible for plucking the top three bass
strings, your index finger only plucks the
third string, the middle is assigned to the
second string, and the ring finger uses
first string.
