E A E
I've got a good woman at home who thinks I do no wrong
E B7
But sometimes lord, she just ain't always around
                    E A E
And you know that's when I fall, I can't help myself at all
E B7
And I get whiskey bent and hell bound
E A E
Play me some songs about a ramblin' man, put a cold one in my hand,
                                            B7
'cause you know I love to hear those guitar sounds
                       E A E
Don't you play 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' cause I'll get all balled up
inside
                     B7 E
And I'll get whiskey bent and hell bound
E A E
Sure enough about closing time, (I'm) about stoned out of my mind
                                            B7
And I end up with some honky-tonk special I found
                     E A E
Just as sure as the morning sun come, thinking of my sweet girl at home
                          B7 E
And I need to get whiskey bent and hell bound
E A E
Play me some songs about a ramblin' man, put old Jim Beam in my hand
                                                           B7
'cause you know I still love to get drunk and hear country sounds
                         E A E
But don't you play 'Your Cheatin' Heart' cause that'll tear me all apart
                 B7 E
I'll get whiskey bent and hell bound
E B7 E
Yeah, old Hank's songs always make me feel low down

It depends on which album
you listen to. Mine he does it in "G"

Sounds Good to Me ;) But yea it could all depend on which record is being listened to.

--- The guy with long hair in the art ad looks like me.. Maybe he is my lost twin.

this is totally wrong the chords are g c d
-khaymain | 3/7/2004
This key works if you use a capo on the third fret. ;)
-bandit2280 | 8/6/2004
Yeah, my recording's also in the key of G.
But you can easily play these chords with
the capo on the 3rd fret.
-debeck | 8/15/2004
to stay true to the song this is best done in G without a capo
-eflow116 | 2/12/2005
definitely E A B7, no doubt about it with the deep voice you can play it no other way-burn
-joeyatfsu | 5/26/2005

-fender2005 | 6/13/2005

-flipacard | 8/1/2005

I have Hanks Songbook right in front of me and it is E A B7. Probably does play it multiple ways but this is the way it was transcribed to his songbook! DRINK LOTS OF WHISKEY!

This song was originally recorded in G, no matter what any song/tab book says. He has played it live in E and probably other keys as well, but the recorded version as heard on the Whiskey Bent & Hellbound Album was in the key of G. An interview with Hank revealed that he originally wrote this song with his guitar tuned to Open G tuning. You can play it in whatever key you want to, but just to settle the agrument, the original recorded version was in the key of G.

E or G it doesn't really matter -- that is why we have different chords and keys
And that is all I have to say about that.
-Buckaru2 | 2/3/2010
when i play this song i play it with the capo on the third and use these same chords.. i think it sounds great.. but thats all opinion..
-geetarmon | 6/2/2010
If you put your capo on the 3rd fret you just put your guitar in the key of G, so E A B works. No capo, G C D , it's all the same. Learn some basic music theory.
