Verse 1: (Willie)
Bm7 A G Bm7
I was a highwayman, along the coach roads I did ride,
A G A
Sword and pistol by my side,
Em D Em A
Many a young maid lost her pobbles to my trade,
Em D Em A
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade,
Bm7 A G Bm7
The basterds hung me in the spring of 25,
D A
But I am still alive

Verse 2: (Waylon)
I was a sailor, I was born upon the tide,
With the sea I did abide,
I sailed a schooner round the horn of Mexico,
I went aloft and furled the main sail in a blow,
And when the yard broke off they say that I got killed,
But I am living still

Verse 3: (Johnny)
I was a dam builder, across a river long and wide,
Where steel and water did collide,
A place called bolder on the wild Colorado,
I slipped and fell on the wet concrete below,
They buried me in that gray tomb that knows no sounds,
But I am still around,

Bridge Thingy: (All)
                D D/C# Bm7 A G D/F# Em
I'll always be around, and around, and around, and around, and around

Verse 4: (Johnny)
I'll fly a starship across the universe divide,
And when I reach the other side,
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can,
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again,
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain,
But I will remain,

Outro: (All) (same chords as bridge)
And I'll be back again, and again, and again, and again, and again

I think verse 3 is sung by Waylon..Verse 2 is by Kris..
-Nolandink | 3/2/2003
the first verse is sung by willie second by waylon third by johnny cash fourth by kris.
-cookston | 9/12/2003
Um, It's actually Willie, Kris, Waylon then Johnny
-mterry909 | 9/12/2003
mterry is right on this its willie, kris, waylon and johnny

-sweckeja | 10/23/2003
I may be wrong but I think that line 3 reads "many a young maid lost her 'baubles' to my trade" not pobbles (what is a pobble)
-Maffi | 12/19/2003
It is a river deep and wide.
-trey75w | 1/13/2004
anyone who can't tell the johnny sings the last two verses shouldn't make any comments......johnny all the way
-whiskey77 | 3/9/2004
first of all for the record i looked it up if theres any doubts. it is willie, kris, waylon then cash second of all the last comment from whiskey if the last two parts are both cash and theres only four parts what is the point of haveing four of them lol get a clue.
-countryroads | 4/2/2004
oh yes as for you people that said it was any other order then willie kriss waylon then cash. it is amazing in its self that you can even play guitar successfully with potatoes in your ears lol.
-countryroads | 4/2/2004
I think this is more correct

Em D A G
Many a young maid lost her pobbles to my trade,
Em D A G
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade,
Bm7 A G D
The basterds hung me in the spring of 25,
G A
But I am still alive

-mattgrizz | 4/13/2004
Verse 2 IS SUNG BY KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. GEEZE LISTEN TO THE SONG YOU CAN TELL.
-rightwinger_26 | 10/17/2004
Mattgrizz-
that line sounds better ending on the Bm:
Em ; D ; A ; Bm(7 or whatever)
-Herbie06 | 1/3/2005
well let me tell you I have been listening to this music all my life and I know all the singers in this song so listen to each of them all open your ears and listen
-guitar_runner | 8/11/2005
it's baubles, not marbles people.

-hindyrox | 10/4/2005
ok... no offense... but i take a little when u mistake kris kristofferson, one of the worlds worst singers, for waylon jennings... kris can write and act all he wants to... but he cant sing a lick.... so please... dont confuse waylon and him, please, lol
-mingmcgrady88 | 12/1/2005
it really dont matter who sang what its a great song and they all did a great job. this is one of the best songs put out by the highwaymen. also great job on the tab keep up the good work.
-zoogit08 | 12/6/2005
WATCH THE VIDEO ON CMT>COM AND YOU WILL SEE THAT IT IS WILLIE KRIS WAYLON JOHNNY
-fenderteleman14 | 1/10/2006
wow...the correct order without a doubt is Willie,Kris,Waylon and undeniably The Man Cash how anybody cannot pick out his voice is truely amazing. That's the order in which history was made in music.Never again will four icons be brought together like that to record an album.By the way a great song and good tab!
