Jamey Johnson - High Cost Of Living

Capo 3

A
I was just a normal guy

Life was just a nine to five
                                        E
With bills and pressure piled up to the sky

She never asked she knew I'd been

Hanging with my wilder friends
                              A
Looking for some other way to fly

Three days straight was no big feet

To get by on no food or sleep
    D Bm
And crazy was becoming my new norm
    A
I'd pass out on the bedroom floor
    E A
And sleep right through the calm before the storm

   D
My life was just an old routine
E A G D
everyday the same damn thing I couldn't even tell I was alive
               A E A
I tell you the high cost of living ain't nothing like the cost of living high

That southern baptist parking lot
Was where I'd go to smoke my pot
Sit there in my pickup truck and pray
And staring at that giant cross
Just reminded me that i was lost
And it just never seemed to point the way
As soon as Jesus turned his back
I'd find my way across the tracks
Looking just to score another deal
With my back against that damn eight ball
I didn't have to think or talk or feel

Chorus

My whole life went through my head
Laying in that hotel bed
Watching as the cops kicked in the door
I had a job and a piece of land
And my sweet wife was my best friend
But I traded that for cocaine and a w***e
With my new found sobriety
I've got the time to sit and think
Of all the things I had and threw away
This prison is much colder than that
One that I was locked up in just yesterday

Chorus

I tell you high cost of living ain't nothing like the cost of living high

Leave that stuff alone

In the verses between the D and Bm there's a D/C#.

great song!!!! tells the story of lots of people myself included. thanks for the wonderful job on the tab. go brother go

Good tab but I personally think its lazy as hell to post a tab and not tab it all out. Seems damn near pointless.
-TravisMarcum | 12/26/2009
I don't tab the entire song with chords because I want the player to listen and teach his ears to hear where the changes are so he can become a better player. It's not lazy...

I agree - the only reason to tab out an entire song is if there are key/chord changes in the verses following the first one or if there is an bridge. Otherwise it's pointless.
If you can play the first verse and chorus...you can play the rest of 'em!
Great tab and great song!

I don't think he says feet, I believe it's fee.
-blacktruck | 8/15/2010
it's actually "three days straight was no big *feat*"

I would walk down the D into the Bm (D, D/C#, Bm)

D D/C# Bm
And crazy was becoming my new norm

Also, as he exits the verses before going into the chorus, there is a G before the D - kind of an accent chord that walks into the Chorus...

During the intro hammer the fretted notes of the A chord and the grab a G NOTE on the top string just before going back to the A chord and that will set this song off as this song to everyone listening when you begin it
