Jamey Johnson - That's Why I Write Songs
Capo 2
C C/B
You fell in love or threw it away
Am F
You're looking for the perfect thing to say
C C/B Am
You're no good with words well that's OK
F G C
That's why I write songs
Might make you laugh or make you cry
Might help you make it through a bad goodbye
Cause you've been through it and so have I
That's why I write songs
F G
I remember all the times I felt
F G
Like somebody knows me all to well
F C C/B Am
Cause it was my life story I was listening to
F G
I Don't know about you
But I've buried love ones and a few good friends
I've held a brand new baby in my hands
It ain't just what i do it's who I am
And that's why I write songs
I remember how it blew my mind
When I played my song and watched a grown man cry
And it was at that moment I just knew
What I was born to do
Most songwriters never get the fame
Some folks wouldn't recognize their names
But chances are you probably sang along
To Harlen Howard or Bob McDill
Whitey Shafer or Whispering Bill
All the times they ever gave me chills
That's why I write songs

Where did you find this? I would LOVE to hear it, if you have the MP3. -WildCard76 | 1/9/2009 | I have a video of me playing this song on youtube. there is also a version of jamey on cmt 330 sessions. the chorus is missing a few things though

-denalitwinkie2s | 1/9/2009 | ya know, I never heard this song until this album came out last week. I've played it the way you have here, and it sounds good, except the F# he hammers on lightly on the very first chord. The only way I could do that was without the capo playing a D chord. So I played along with no capo using D, A, G, Bm. The little run he does before he sings "to Harlan Howard... is all played on the B string, it goes B, C#, D,E,D... Now I know you're gonna say, but he plays it with a capo on the 2nd fret, but if you listen to the album version, there is no capo. -RockStar66 | 9/27/2010 |
