If You're Here When I Get Back
John Eddie
CD: Who The Hell Is John Eddie?
Tabbed by Jason Marbach - email questions to Smoothie7745 at hotmail.com

Intro:
D (walkdown to:) G (repeat 3x (4x total))

Intro (w/ walkdown):
e|--2------------3-|
B|--3------------3-|
G|--2------------0-|
D|-0----4---2----0-|
A|---------------2-|
E|--------------3--|
(Note: This is a very basic version of what's on the CD -
On the CD, there is some nice fingerpicking - nothing that
is too hard, as fingerpicking goes, it's just a matter
of learning how to fingerpick...)

Verse 1:
D F#m
Kiss me baby on the curb
G D
Throw your arms around my waist
D F#m
Send me off with your sweet words
G D
Say a little prayer, show a little faith
G G/F#
These boots are broken in
     Em
From always leaving you
A
This road takes a lot of turns

Each one leads me back to you, but

Chorus:
D F#m G
If you're here when I get back
                     D
Will you open up the door
D F#m G
If you're here when I get back
                        Em
Will you pull me to the floor
                      G A
Will you kiss me like before?
                   D G
I couldn't ask for more
                   D G
I couldn't ask for more

Verse 2:
I know you hate to sleep alone
I feel strangers closing in
I wanna crawl right through this phone
And feel the softness of your skin
I feel so helpless and
These walls are creeping close
In this here hotel room
Tonight I'm sleeping with your ghost, but

Chorus:
If you're here when I get back
Will you put my fears to rest?
If you're here when I get back
Lay your head upon my chest
With nothing to confess
Aw, baby, please say yes
Aw, baby, please say yes

Interlude:
D (walkdown and back up twice - just listen
to the song if you need to hear it and play
essentially the same lick as the intro, except
don't go to G, just stay in D)

Verse 3:
If I stay away too long
And somebody takes my place
Whenever sad boys sing their songs
I'll hear your voice, I'll see your face
And if the morning light we never share
You know you're there, each and every single prayer, but

Chorus:
If you're here when I get back
We'll put all that aside
If you're here when I get back
Will you open your arms wide?
Will you let me come inside?
I'd be so satisfied
I'd be so satisfied
               D G
I'd be so satisfied
               D G
I'd be so satisfied

Excellent song!! And a great job...I think
I can get the intro once I get a copy of the song...

Yeah it's not that hard, I guess...I was
just lazy with the tabbing :) lol

The little acoustic lick that's in the
beginning and all throughout the song is
this:

e|------5~~~~-------|
B|-5/7-------7p5--3~|
G|------------------|
D|------------------|
A|------------------|
E|------------------|

I agree, it's a great song. Very poignant
in it's simplicity...or something to that
effect :) lol.

Happy pickin!

love your work here. I was wondering if you might be able to do anything with his great song..."Everything". I have a couple of the beginning chords but nothing else. Again great work and thanks
