DANNY BOY
JOHNNY CASH
AMERICAN IV: THE MAN COMES AROUND

This version is sung with a pipe organ. Johnny recorded it in a Cathedral.
The song "You'll Never Walk Alone" was recorded at the same time, and is
included in the Unearthed Box Set. It was a potential cut for this album.
Johnny preferred Danny Boy for the finished product. Him and Rick Rubin talked
about recording a full album in a Cathedral using the pipe organ, but they
never did so.

Key of "A"
Capo 2 G

OUTRO: Repeat Intro

ABOUT THE SONG:
The music for this song is an old Irish tune, originally
called "Londonderry Air". There are other lyrics written
for this melody, also. The lyrics for "Danny Boy" were
written by English poet Frederick E. Weatherly in 1910.
They were set to this Irish melody when his sister played
him the song "Londonderry Air". It is ironic how the
lyrics for a traditional Irish tune were written by an
English man, but it was written about an Irish man.

On the "Orange Blossom Special" recording of this song,
Johnny says before singing the song, that it was written
about a young man who's girlfriend comes to him and tells
him that there's a war breaking out and she wanted him to
fight in the war for her. She told him that she'd be waiting.
That's the story about who "Danny" is when the song says "Oh Danny Boy".
