GREEN GRENN GRASS OF HOME
JOHNNY CASH
C C7
The old hometown looks the same
F C
As I stepped down from the train
C G7 Dm7
And there to meet me is my mama and my papa
G7 C C7
Down the road I look and there runs Mary
F Fdim F Em7-Dm7
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
C G7 Dm7-G7 C F C
It's good to touch the green green grass of home
The old house is still standing
Though the paint is cracked and dry
And there's that old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green green grass of home
CHORUS:
Dm7 G7 C C7
Yes they'll all come to see me
F
Arms reaching smiling sweetly
Dm7 C G Dm7 G7 C
It's good to touch the green green grass of home
Then I awake and look around me
To the cold gray walls that surround me
And then I realize I was only dreaming
For there's a guard and a sad old padre
Arm in arm I walk at daybreak
Again I'd touch the green green grass of home
CHORUS:
Dm7-G7 C C7
Yes they'll all come to see me
F Em7
In the shade of that old oak tree
Dm7 C G Dm7 G7 F-Em7-Dm7-C
As they lay me neath the green green grass of home

What key is the recording in?
-lmofle | 12/19/2004 | The recording is in the Key of G. I'm pretty sure of that. The other tab here says that, but it was missing some of the chords. I put it in the key of C, because, some people wer telling me that they find it hard to hit some of Johnny Cash's note while singing. So I put it in C. I then put in the chords for the key of G at the bottom, so that if you can hit those notes, then you'll know what the chords are for G. -macg1 | 12/21/2004 |
