Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me - Keith Urban
Album: Golden Road
Writers: Keith Urban/Monty Powell

Since the intro and all the verse is the chord of "D", play a hammer-on variation
something like this:

E---2---2--2---2-2----------
B---3---3--3---3-3----------
G---0h2-2--0h2-2-2----------
D---0---0--0---0-0----------
A---------------------------
E---------------------------

Listen to CD for timing and you can create the same sort of rhythm pattern they're
playing with the hammer-on and strumming quick and short.

Intro: D

Verse 1: (all D)
I got no money in my pockets
I got a hole in my jeans
I had a job and I lost it
But it won't get to me
Cause I'm ridin' with my baby
And it's a brand new day
We're on the wheels of an angel
Flyin' away

Chorus:
        D Em7
And the sun is shining, and this road keeps winding
             G
Through the prettiest country
                      D
From Georgia to Tennessee
              D
And I got the one I love beside me
        Em7
My troubles behind me
     G
I'm alive and I'm free
                      D
Who wouldn't wanna be me

Verse 2: (all D)
Now she's strumming on my 6-string
Across her pretty knees
She's stompin' out a rhythm
And singing to me the sweetest song

Instrumental: D Em7 G D

CHORUS

D Em7 D G
I got no money in my pockets
D Em7 D G
I got a hole in my jeans
      D Em7 D G
We're on the wheels of an angel, and I'm free
D Em7 D G
She's strumming on my 6-string, it's across her pretty knees
D Em7 D G
She's stompin' out a rhythm, and singing to me

D Em7 D G

Chords:
D   =   xx0232
G   =   320003
Em7  =  020000 or 022030

If you want to play in Drop D tuning:
D   =   000232
G   =   500003 or 5x0003
Em7 =   220000 or 220030 or x22030 or x22033

Em7 is 022010
-cfalse36 | 8/7/2003
Yeah that is one of the ways you can play Em7.

Wait, nevermind I thought you had 022030...

I don't know what that chord is (022010)
-Shantel | 8/10/2003
If you listen to the recording of this song, the correct chord is not
D. if it is, it has to be capo'd at the 1st or 2nd fret. It doesn't
match with the chords Keith is playing. Try playing a D to the song
and stop and listen. it might actually even be tuned a step lower.
If anyone has a comment please post it, I would be interested to know
what else is possible
-CountryRocks | 8/22/2003
is this a nother way to play g 09870605
-Zipper | 8/22/2003
CountryRocks are you sure your guitar isn't out of tune?
I'd swear my life on the fact that is a D chord, the whole
song is in the key of D. And axehappy who tabs lead like
a pro mentioned on his tab that all the lead is in drop D tuning,
hence it has to be a D chord under the lead.
-Shantel | 8/22/2003
First of all, it is a D chord. Second, for Em7 just play: 020030.
Third play G: x05433
-avsfan | 8/23/2003
I'm assuming zipper's comment was a joke because there are
8 strings in his "diagram" lol
For the record x05433 would be a G/A, I don't think it really
fits in this song but if you think it sounds good feel free
to play it. :o)
-Shantel | 8/23/2003
If there is one person on this that has correct tabs
it's this girl right here......it is very much correct......
-palamin0 | 9/24/2003
Actually, it appears the song is, at least
to the lead guitarist, played in drop D (He
tunes to it at the very beginning)

The low D does not fit in well to your
diagrammed Em7 and G chords, so I've ben
playing it like this:

D: 000232
Em7: XX0030
G: XX5433

-SharkESP | 9/29/2003
all yall suck the g sounds horrible and one cat has a 8 string
guitar where yall learn how to play by the way i don't keith
plays a madolin in this song i think d em7 and g sond perfect
clean out yo nasty ears so you can hear it to or play the chords
to get a better sound of what they are supposed to sound like
D xx0232
em7 x22033
g 320003

-mosley85 | 11/16/2003
There are tons of different ways to play any given chord.
I added some diagrams of what to play if you want to play the song
in Drop D tuning....and put up lots of options. Pick one you like
and go with it! It's all about what sound you like the best.
-Shantel | 11/17/2003
Great Tab and great song..thanks Shantel!
-browntrout | 11/22/2003
just an fyi in concert kieth plays most of his songs including this
one with a capo'ed 2nd fret. really good effort and it sound pretty
good, but try some other chords with a capo'ed 2nd.
-ydconnell | 12/4/2003
Ok, for heavens sake everyone stop!
1 Chill out
2 The chords below the song are all correct
(except for one drop d)
3 The intro is NOT played on a banjo,
its on a mandolin.
Just calm down and stop arguing
(Keith Urban rocks!!)
-bowlingdude2000 | 2/11/2004
If he capo's his geetar at the 2nd fret for this song, how'z he
getting that low D on the intro that he dive-bombs to tune down to?

-subammas | 4/6/2004
I don't know what all of ya'll
are talking about. now i am not
the best geetar player but
one of my strengths is playing
by ear and i found nothing wrong.
Good Tab! :>

-Derrick_koehler | 5/3/2004
To use a capo and get Drop D tuning, you would capo the BOTTOM 5
strings on the 2nd fret leaving the 6th one open. This creates a Drop
D tuning in a higher key...you might check it that way. Cross
Canadian Ragweed did it on Highway 377.

-lmofle | 5/12/2004
Ok, since were all commenting about that D chord,
I may as well put in my comment. Now easy on me ladies and gentlemen,
I have not been playing long but the D to me seems
like you could get a close sound if you play it as x00230,
I have not got a clue what the hell the chord is called,
somthing like d/f??????,,,,but I hope I am helping out here and
not adding to the confusion. Oh and that is without the drop tunning and no capo
......and by the way, very nice job on the tabbing Shantel. Paul
-plarock | 7/12/2004
bighos lol
-me222222 | 8/17/2004
I didn't delete it personally but you're not allowed to
post on the internet stuff direct from sheet music, that's
illegal. So that's probably why it was deleted.
-Shantel | 10/6/2004
You know what! I've never heard so much rabble in all my life about D chords banjos, mandolins intros, outros...the only one who knows how to play this is Keith since he played it and since he's not here to answer your questions. May I suggest all you hotshots use your ears for listening and work out the songs using them too..
-tunertown | 11/10/2004
i agree, havent seen so many people moan
about a dumb chord. Honestly, if you find
somthing wrong with the chord , do the song
yourself because if your critisizing (h/e) its spelled) someone else obviously you can
do better, so make your own! (Keith Urban is the man by the way)
-SweetThing11028 | 11/13/2004
Shantel the part you made was

Since the intro and all the verse is the chord of "D", play a hammer-on variation
something like this:

E---2---2--2---2-2----------
B---3---3--3---3-3----------
G---0h2-2--0h2-2-2----------
D---0---0--0---0-0----------
A---------------------------
E---------------------------

I watched the video in the intro i made up this i wanna know if it sounds right

E---------------------------
B---3---3--3---3-3----------
G---0h2-2--0h2-2-2----------
D---------------------------
A---------------------------
D---2---2--2---2-2----------

I watched Keith on the video do it with a guitar and wanted to see if it looked right
-Ryan735 | 11/14/2004
Thats because he is in drop d
-bluegrasstabs | 11/24/2004
then again maybee its not i just
tried it and it doesnt sound
right
in drop d
-bluegrasstabs | 11/24/2004
Blue Okay for a second i thought it sounded good how about not playing the 2 on the D how dose that sound?
-Ryan735 | 11/25/2004
First of all, I have always played Em7 this way and no matter the song it has always sounded perfect.

022033 = Em7
-gendollar | 12/17/2004
i think you did a great job chording the song. there is no point in everyone arguing over the chords or instruments, just play it how you feel, music isnt something you can read off paper, you have to feel it in your stomache and go with it. so my advice to everyone is to just take what Shantel has chorded and if they find conflict, post it in a nice way and stop bein jackasses. i mean damn the person took the time to chord the s-o-b so be grateful. As we all know keith rocks. and lord i hope this post doesnt cause more bickering.

-FenderFan521 | 1/10/2005
In order to play an Em7, as opposed to an Em, you add the seven, which is D. That's why you can play an Em7 with the D string open, or by fretting the B string at the 3rd fret, which adds a D.
-skizzo | 1/20/2005
I DONT WANNA SOUND DUMB...CAUSE IM REALLY NEW AT PLAYING THE GUITAR, BUT IS THEIR A STRUMMING PATERN FOR THE CHORUS...OR VERSE
-tyson79ca | 2/24/2005
2nd D in the Outro is a D/F# 004232
-KU_isbestever | 5/31/2005
This my friends is how you really play the intro ...
e-
b-
g-
d-5h7 5h7.....and so on and so forth
a-5 555 5
e-

-newcountrystar0 | 6/28/2005
on the ending of the song the chord progression is 1-2m7-3m7-1 or d, em7 , f#m7, em7 is sound really close if you play the f#m7 as 2x222x
-MUSICISLIFE615 | 8/3/2005
