Cross-cut Saw

Yeah (D) I thought I knew it all
Till Dad put me on the other (A) end
Of a cross-cut (D) saw

Now you pull, you dont push,
You pull it away from (A) me
I pull it back, away from (D) you

Down on your knees,
Cut that stump close to the (A) ground
Short small strokes at first
Let the steel teeth make their (D) sound

Zing (D) zing the saw cuts the cold winter air
Breathe out white puffs of (A) steam
Dont work against one another
Work together as a (D) team

Sawdust flakes drop in the snow
Yellow gold covers my (A) knees
The tall tree groans, and leans
Toward the undercut we made with (D) ease

The cut opens up wide
We pull the saw back, (A) away
The tall top quivers in the breeze
Leans over and thumps the ground (D) away

I look at Dad
He looks back at (A) me
Tight smiles, we both had
Lets cross-cut another (D) tree

Firewood, white oak, winter time..cross-cut saw.
