(D) My last drink was (G) twenty-years (D) ago
I take it one day at a time, as they have (A) said.
But (D) today, it was really touch and (G) go
(D) So I planted a (A) rose, (D) instead.

(D) Creeping age and (G) ailments, are the (D) cause
Maybe one drink, wouldnt be so (A) bad..
(D) But your pretty smile, (G) made me pause
(D) And I planted a (A) rose(D) instead

(D) Many times, I would  (G) given (D) in
Your strong faith kept me straight (A) ahead
And (D) turned my losing thoughts, to those (G) to win
And (D) I planted another (A) rose, (D) instead

(D) Thank God, you have been (G) here for (D) me
Enduring may actionsyou had to (A) dread
Your patient love opened my eyes (G) and told me
To (D) plant another (A) rose, (D) instead.

Now you have (G) a rose garden, (D) instead.
