Capo 1

Verse 1

(G)
When I got the news today,
(Em)
I didn't know what to say,
(D) (C)
So I just hung up the phone.
(G)
I took a walk to clear my head
(Em)
And this is where the walking lead..
(D) (C)
Can't believe your really gone
(C)
I don't feel like going home

Chorus

(G)
So I'm gonna sit right here,
(D)
On the edge of this pier
(Em) (C)
And watch the sunset disappear
              (G) (D) (Em) (C)
And drink a beer.

Verse 2

Funny how the good ones go,
Too soon but the good lord knows
The reasons why, I guess.
It's funny how a greater plan
Is too hard to understand
Right now it don't make sense..
No I can't make it all make sense.

Chorus

So I'm gonna sit right here,
On the edge of this pier
And watch the sunset disappear
And drink a beer.

(C) (D) (Em) (D) (C)
So long my friend, until we meet again
(C) (D)
Well I'll remember you
              (Em) (D) (C)
And all the times that we used to..
(G) (D)
Sit right here, on the edge of this pier
  (Em) (C)
And watch the sunset disappear
               (G) (D) (Em) (C)
And drink a beer
              (G) Outro (D) (Em) (C)
Drink a beer

try Cadd9 in place of C and see what you think about it. Great tab anyway!

If you want to sound like the main acoustic guitar in the song it's actually Capo 6 and played as if in the key of "D"

On the recording anyway, I don't know about live

I agree, capo on 1st. My ear isn't picking up on the Em in the verses, sounds more like a C there to me. Great tab, thank you!

I agree with the last poster. During the verses there is no Em. That is a Cadd9 in that position. I watched the CMA performance and confirmed that he is playing the C Chord position there.
