Mark Chesnutt – Somebody Save The Honky Tonks

A D

  D
I drove down to The Trap but the joint was closed
Lately they’ve been droppin’ like Dominos
A D
All of my favorite waterin’ holes are dryin’ up
Tell me is it too much
For a man to ask
                                       A
To hear Haggard and Jones sing CC Waterback
With the lights so low
                                  D
And cold drafts will cost you one buck
Enough’s enough.

Chorus:
G
Somebody Save The Honky Tonks
    D A
The hard wood floor and the quarter jukebox
                                        D
Where’s the workin’ man gonna go to get tore up
When the last one’s tore down
G
Somebody Save the neon lights
        D
And the cinderblock shacks crossed the county line
A
Everyday another piece of history’s lost
                  D A D B
Somebody Save The Honky Tonks.

          E
Well it’s enough to bring a tear to a blood shot eye
Not knowin’ where to go on a Friday night
       B
To get down and get loud
                  E
And unwind from a hard day
Listen, we the people got a make a stand
Maybe write a letter to our congressman
B
Show some support for the drinkin’ man
   E
We can’t wait, until it’s too late.

Chorus2:
A
Somebody Save The Honky Tonks
    E
The hard wood floor and the quarter jukebox
B E
Where’s the workin’ man gonna go to get tore up
When the last one’s tore down
A
Somebody Save the neon lights
        E
And the cinderblock shacks crossed the county line
B
Everyday another piece of history’s lost
                  E
Somebody Save The Honky Tonks.

B
Why don’t they take that ol’ wreckin’ ball
To the uppity bars, down at the mall
All I’m askin, all I want
                  E(Stop) B E
Somebody Save The Honky Tonks.

Amen, brother! Save the honky tonks
- AND save country music from the
cotton-candy acts! I've said it before
and I'll say it again, Mark Chesnutt is
what country music NEEDS right now. A
country singer, singing country music!

Wild card, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. I haven't listened to the radio in two years. Mostly because I don't want to throw up all over my steerin wheel. God Bless Mark and all the other Honky Tonk singers that are trying to get by in a world of country pop. Somebody save the honkytonks and Honkytonk heroes like Mark Chesnutt. Great tab/song.
