Montgomery Gentry - If You Ever Stop Loving Me

**** read note at the bottom

Cadd9 = x32033
Bm/5+ = x20033
G6/A = x02033
C5 = x355xx
B5 = x244xx
A5 = x022xx

Intro - D or (D-C-G)
(I don't know how to tab leads yet so I'll give
ya the notes to play while the "D" is being played)

      (C-DD-C-EE-C-GGGGGG-F#F#)

(verse 1)
   C G D
My Ol' man's back hand use to land

hard on the side of my head
   C G D
I just learned to stay out of his way,

(verse 2)
               C G
There's been street fights, blue lights
           D
long nights with the world sittin on my chest,
    C G D
It just showed me how much I could take,

(bridge)
Bb C
Hard times, bad luck
Bb C
sometimes life sucks

(chorus)
D C
That's alright, I'm ok,
   G D
It ain't nothin but another day,
D C
But only God knows where I'll be,
G D D - C - G - D
If you ever stop lovin me,

(verse 3)
    C G
The bank man, boss man, the law man,
D
all tryin to get their hands on me,
       C G D
and I ain't even done a damn thing wrong,

(verse 4)
           C G D
I've been way-laid, freight train, short changed,

by the bigger, and badder man
     C G D
and all I got to say is bring it on,

(bridge)
Bb C
hard rain, rough roads,
Bb C
so my life goes,

(chorus)
D C
That's alright, I'm ok,
   G D
It ain't nothin but another day,
D C
But only God knows where I'll be,
G D
If you ever stop lovin me,

(bridge)
C5-B5-A5-D5
or
Cadd9 - Bm/5+ - G6/A - D
                       I need you,
C5-B5-A5-D5
or
Cadd9 - Bm/5+ - G6/A - D
                      Gotta have you,
C5-B5-A5-D5
or
Cadd9 - Bm/5+ - G6/A - D A Bm
In my life by my side
      G A
Everyday I'm alive,
       Bm C D A D
Every night that I"m dreamin I need you, you -o -o -o

(lead - D - C - G = 2x's)

chorus)
D C
That's alright, I'm ok,
   G D
It ain't nothin but another day,
D C
But only God knows where I'll be,
G D
If you ever stop lovin me,

Outro - D - C - G - D - repeat to fade

***again some of you will question the names of the chords
and like I preach over and over.....chords have many
names and I associate them by the structure of the
   progressions.....
Also in the bridge you can play your power / Rock chords
the C5-B5-A5-D5 or you can walk down from the Cadd9
   structure Cadd9 - Bm/5+ - G6/A - D simple as pie...***

I wonder if anyone might know how to play that little intro
riff/lick/thing at the beginning? I notice you just marked "D," but
it's a moving line that kind of follows the chorus melody...can
anybody help me here?

-not_staying | 3/22/2004
that is why they would call the "moving part" a tab when
it's charted out and I don't know how to tab yet...lol;)
The chord is "D" so the run will fall through
the "D" Progression......You could play the D-C-G chords in the
intro but that's not correct but could work...
The lead part I just posted above, I hope it helps
(like I said Ican't tab but there's the notes...lol)

[After listening to the video many times and
having a familiarity with hillbilly dialect,
would humbly submit some additions/changes]:

1.Intro
D C G D (2X)
2.verse 4 lyrics
I've been way-laid, freight-trained,
short-changed, by bigger and badder men,
and all I got to say is "bring it on".
3.bridge lyrics
I need you,
Gotta have you,
In my life by my side,
Every day I'm alive,
Every night that I'm dreamin,
I'm needin --you-o-o-o
3.lyrics for third line of chorus
But only God knows where I'd be,
4.lyrics in Outro
[listen to video for timing
relative to D - C - G - D
chord progression]

It ain't nothin but another day

But only God knows where I'd be,
If you ever stop lovin me.

Baby, never stop lovin me

Ah, can't you see

What your lovin does to me.

-crcrcrcr | 3/25/2004
the moving part would be:
e-----------------------------------
B-1-33---1-55---1-88787877----------
G-----------------------------------
D-----------------------------------
A-----------------------------------
E-----------------------------------

or for an easier version, play:
e----------00-----33232322----------
B-1-33---1------1-------------------
G-----------------------------------
D-----------------------------------
A-----------------------------------
E-----------------------------------

for the correct timing, try playing along
with the song... also there are some slide-ups
thrown in there between the 1 and 3' and 1 and 5's
on the B string... by listening to the song you can
get it down pretty quickly

Hi, for the intr and song, I tuned down the first and sixth sting to D. Don't know if it is right, but it sounds great. Fuller, like a twelve string. When playing the chords, play the 1st and 6th string open.

Thanks
