Capo 5

G D Em D
It didn't matter Tommy Jackson was running free
C G C D
Cause the man he killed never mattered much to me
G D Em D
There’s talk in our town about where Tommy might run
C G D
Wondered if it mattered, he has used my gun
G D Em D
80 Miles East of the line down on my grand daddy's farm
C G C D
He laid low just for the night and he slept there in our barn
G D Em D
I watched him steal our Ford and drive away in the sun
   C G D C
18 Years of getting older now a dead man on the run

Chorus:
C D Em D
Isn't love a funny thing with a pistol in your hand
C G D
Close you eyes and bow your head to pray if you can
C D Em D
Well you sealed your fate when you picked up that shotgun
   C G D C G
18 Years of getting older now a dead man on the run, on the run

For 15 days Tommy kept his conscience between the lines
His ex-wife and a cold jail cell were always on his mind
He ran out of cash at an east-bound truck stop
But he found work there at Fritz's muffler shop
Fritz was a good man and Pamela was his wife
2 kids a nice home and on the surface a good life
But drunk on Whisky Pam and Tommy had some fun
18 Years of getting older now a dead man on the run

Chorus

Now every Sunday morning she goes down to the place where he lays
She tells Tommy how she never wanted things this way
Rest in Peace Tommy Jackson 1981
18 Years of getting older now a dead man on the run

Chorus

C G Am F C G if you want to play it open, the intro is C and F with
a hammer on the G string...listen to the song if you want to hear the
walkdown, not saying yoou have a bad tab larry but i just wanted to
put the open tab on her...no offense meant in anyway

It's cool...TxJimmy questioned the capo 5 and
when I listen to a song, especially acoustic,
you can hear "higher" strings indicating a
capo used...REK uses one alot. Thanks for
posting the open chords...

-lmofle | 8/3/2003
if you play the G Am walkdown to F you can get those higher notes,
but i guess its however you want to play it, i played your way last
night and your right it does have those high notes in it...thanks
larry

what are the chords after "where tommy might run"
blank blank blank "wonder if...

-zrwill | 8/4/2003
Is that at the end?
-lmofle | 8/4/2003
i think it's at the end of every line where there's an Em
-zrwill | 8/4/2003
I hear it...it's where it's a fast chord change.
The actual progression would be Em-D-C but you
are already in the Em and you are going to the C
so it's really a quick D.
-lmofle | 8/7/2003
Make that quick chord change like this: Downstrum on Em, lightining fast upstrum on D, then downstrum on the C.....Great Tab
-ffemt | 1/5/2005
So what is the rhythm to this song? Need some help havin some problems with it.
-eriktest12 | 12/27/2005
if you leave the D out after the Em it sounds right i think
