Dallas After Midnight

Performed By:

Ray Wylie Hubbard & Jack Ingram

Album: Delirium Tremelos

D-G D-G

D G
I pulled in the alley behind the liquor store

D G
turned out the lights left the motor running and opened up the door

Em A
I flashed a grin and said, Jack this is going to be a piece of cake

Em A
Later tonight, we'll head down to the last stand. Split up the take

D G
Sit there in the darkness, take a drink of wine

D G
Feeling high and fast and loose, so right

Em A
Then I think of something I've never realised

Em A
if i get shot tonight, i aint never been baptised

Chorus

D G A
Oh, Dallas After Midnight

D G A
Oh, Dallas after midnight

D G A
Oh, Dallas After midnight

I came running back blinded by sweat, blood, and tears
He said "Jack, the cat had a gun. Lets get out of here"
I didn't say nothing as I drove away
I kept asking myself how'd I get so mean i Couldn't pray??

CHORUS

(Bridge)
G A D
There aint nothing I like better than driving on hard concrete

G Em
I'd rather hold a steering wheel than having a woman at my own two feet

Em A
Every since I was a little kid, I was always rowdy and loud

Em A
Now here I am at 34 still running around with the wrong crowd

SOLO

Now we had such plans when we got to Mexico
After a high speed chase we got caught south of San Angelo
The judge asked, "why do you want a rob a liquor store?"
Said, "your honor, it's hard to live in Dallas when your white trash and poor"

The low 'E' (6th string) is tuned down to a D. It gives it a real cool sound but makes chord formation difficult......... or easier depending on how you handle it. All chords except 'D' are played with the 4th, 5th and 6th string barred or mashed down like a traditional 'A' chord two strings up.
2 0 ------- muted Same barred position played on the 3rd, 5th, 2nd and 7th fret.

Yup, Drop D really works great, I tried it when I first heard the song cause of the dark sound of it...and sure drop D really gives it that dark sound, I play G on this song 550033

Still comical after all these years that the dimwit thinks Ray's only version is the one released with Jack (30 years after the original).

Welcome to Texas Music...where the songwriter changes the words at will.
