I Can't Turn My Back On The Bottle
By Ridley Bent
Tabbed By Larry Mofle
11/30/2012

A
Junior Johnson was a moonshiner, he ran that shine all over to North Carolina
       G D A
In his super charged, 1947 Chevrolet, raisin’ hell and getting paid
     A
Well Junior’s new wife was a beautiful sight, she’d get upset when he’d stay out all night
           G D A
These were hard times and they led men to hard ways, she wasn’t happy when he drank all day

Chorus:
            D
She’d say, “Turn me loose, or give up the booze
     A
It’s me or the hooch hunny, you gotta choose"
D
He’d say, “I love you, but there ain’t no choice
G D A
I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”
          G D A
He’d say “I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”

Freddy was an alcoholic tax agent, he’d be burned by Junior time and again
It was the sad truth, all those times he was in hot pursuit, not once did he catch that souped-up coupe
Well Junior took his skills to the race-track, he found another way to get a pay check,
The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing, yeah he became a man worth chasin’

Chorus 2:
He’d say, “Turn me loose, or give up the booze.
It’s me or the hooch sonny, you gotta choose.”
He’d say, “I love you, but their ain’t no choice,
I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”
He’d say, “I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”

Freddy got a tip from Dirty Bill, Junior was up guarding his papa’s still
And they boxed him in, They locked him up and threw the book at him, yeah Freddy was happy with his revenge
Well Junior was released in ’58, he quickly proved he was born to race,
He had 50 vics when he retired in ’66, that champagne always did the trick

He’d say, “Turn me loose, or give up the booze.
It’s me or the hooch hunny, you gotta choose.”
He’d say, “I love you, but their ain’t no choice,
I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”
He’d say, “I can’t turn my back on the bottle.”
He’d say, “I can’t turn my back on the bottle. Oh no no no.”
