Out Here in the Middle
by Robert Earl Keen, Jr.

Written by: James McMurtry

Capo 4th fret
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

G D C
They broke into your car last night, took your stereo.
G D C
Now you say you don't know why you even live there anymore.
G D Em C D C
Garage man didn't see a thing so you guess it was an inside job...

G D C
You made reservations, a table for three.
G D C
They said you had to wait, somebody must've bribed the maitre d'.
     G D C
The boss got mad and blamed it all on you...
     G D Em C D
The food was bad, the deal fell through.

   C G D G
- Out here in the middle you can park it on the street,
C G D
Skip up to the counter, nearly always get a seat.
C G D Em
Nobody steals, nobody cheats...
C G D C G D C G D
Wish you were here, my love. Wish you were here, my love. -

G D/F# C
We got tractor pulls and Red Man chew.
G D/F# C
Coporate relow(?) refugees who need love too.
G D/F# Em C D C
And we ain't seen Elvis in a year or two.
G D/F# C
We got justification for wealth and greed,
  G D/F# C
"Amber waves of grain" and bathtub speed.
G D/F# Em C D
Now we even got Starbucks, what else ya need?

   C G D G
- Out here in the middle where the center's on the right
          C G D
And the ghost of William Jennings Bryan preaches every night.
 C G D Em
Save your lonely souls in the dashboard light.
C G D C G D
Wish you were here, my love. Wish you were here, my love. -

C G D C G D C G D

   C G D G
- Out here in the middle where the buffalo roam
C G D
We're puttin' up towers for youe cellphone.
C G D Em
And we screen all applicants with a fine-tooth comb.
C G D
Wish you were here, my love (wish you were here, my love)
C G D
Wish you were here, my love (wish you were here, my love)
C G D
Wish you were here, my love (I wish you were here)
C G D
Wish you were here, my love.
C G D C G D
Wish you were here, my love (wish you were here...)

Thanks to the person who posted this. I fell in love with this song the first time I opened REK's new cd. Even though it's not his song, this is still one of the best on any of his cds.
