Sara Evans - Backseat of a Greyhound Bus

C#m7 = x46454

Intro - E - Bm - A - E

(verse 1)
 E
She wore a dress with cherries on it,
Bm
Going somewhere where she'd be wanted,
   A E
A town this small, all they do is talk,
 E
No wedding ring, Chipped finger nail polish,
Bm
She always dreamed that she'd go to college,
      A E
But some dreams fade, they just slip away,
       C#m7 A E
She started to show A few months ago and she had to go,
       B
That's how she wound up,

(chorus)
          E
On the backseat of a grey hound bus,
C#m7
Head on down with the windows up,
  A D C#m
Staring at the rest of her life-ife,
      E
She never thought this would be the place,
C#m7
Where she would find her saving Grace,
         A C#m
But she fell in love she fell in love,
          D A E
On the backseat of a grey hound bus,
E Bm A E
ho hoa yeah yeah,

(verse 2)
  E
Moon was full stars were smiling,
Bm
God has a funny sense of timing,
      A E
The baby came on the interstate,
      E
Somewhere between Jackson and Memphis,
Bm
She finally found what she had missing,
       A E
She cried and laughed, while the red lights flashed,
C#m7 A E
Sweet baby girl she looked into the face of a new,
     B
The face of a brand new world,

(chorus)
          E
On the backseat of a grey hound bus,
C#m7
Heart's so full that it could bust,
  A D C#m
Staring at the rest of her life-ife,
      E
She never thought this would be the place,
C#m7
Where she would find her saving Grace,
         A C#m

Good tab of a great song!

on the bridge going to chorus, i believe the chord stays on E, not C#m7. then in the chorus, the second chord, after the first E, is F#m, not C#m7. i think the reason everyones having a hard time with the chords is because this song should be capoed at the 2nd fret, with the E played in d formation, and open all the chords up.
-starRider | 9/16/2003
I agree with the capo on the 2nd fret. I also think that the Bm in the sequence is actually a C(add 9)when played with the capo. I could be wrong though.

I agree with you robin. I just played it the other night and it sounds like the C (I call it a C2 chord). They definitely use a capo though.

This song could give anyone fits. Subtle
chords that could be mistaken easily. But the following works best. The Bm is a 7th. The
C#m7 in question is really an E/G# 4x2400.
The C#m in "life-ife" is A/C# x4222x easily
confused with an F#m. The sweet baby girl
line is as follows: E/G# Asus2 E/G# B.
palamino does great but even this one gave me fits for a while till I could not sleep till I got it. Play it as above with the rest of the chords being correct and you will be pleasantly surprise. Hat off to you palamino you do great work, keep up. John
