This basically a riff of D where the bass walks the open D string, the C on the A
string and then the open A string) with a long G chord on Peace in Peacemaker
From their Live at The Station Inn album (gigs only sales)
the 2nd D in the riff comes immediately after the last word in each line

you can approximate the sound by playing the chords shown below
thanks to woof for the feedback.(give him kudos)

      D C Am Am D C Am Am
I'm a cool three pounds of cold blue steel
      D C Am Am D C Am Am
I shoot even better than the way I feel
made to fit right in your hand
why i'll never understand

I coulda been a hammer or a railroad spike
I coulda been a train rollin through the night
but they gave my voice such a terrible sound
that I wish they'd left me in the ground

         G
I'm a peacemaker
D C Am Am D C Am Am
don't know how I got my name
      G
I'm a peacemaker
      A
if I don't deserve the credit
       C D C Am Am
why do I deserve the blame

When the lion lays down with the lamb
then you won't find me in nobody's hand
till that time I will remain
till the sinners lay down with the saints

I'm a peacemaker
don't know how I got my name
I'm a peacemaker
if I don't deserve the credit
why do I deserve the blame

I'm a peacemaker
don't know how I got my name
I'm a peacemaker
if I don't deserve the credit
why do I deserve the blame

I'm a cool three pounds of cold blue steel
I shoot even better than the way I feel

Does anyone know what tuning Stapleton uses when playing this? From watching the chords on some of the youtube videos, I think it might be DADGAD. I can get it to sound OK in standard tuning, but IMHO it sounds more like the original when played in an alternate tuning.

Try playing it in D minor.
Intro is just
0/4 Dm 3/5 Dm 0/5 Dm (hammer on3/5) Dm 0/4 Dm
Repeat ...

# strum down on the Dm chordbb for the above tab.
