Album: Tambourine
Tabbed By: NashvilleChick (Lindsay D.)

Intro: G D C

Verse 1:

G
This was a town took care of it's own

D
That's what me and my children have known

C
I worked the mill the way my parents did

G
I remember this town when I was a kid

Bmi
Sitting through the movies twice

C
Open windows late at night

G
Slipping out in the summer heat

D
To meet John Miller in the middle of the street

Chorus:

C
They laid a highway a few years back

G
Next town over by the railroad track

D
Some nights, I'm glad it passed us by

C G D C
Some nights, I sit and watch my hometown die

Verse 2:

G
I'm fifty-five and when the mill burned down

D
I wasn't much past a pretty young gal

C
Boss lit a match in the oily night

G
Cops never had enough to set it right

             Bmi
So while the company traded with our lives

        C
We were busy watching that slow moon rise

G
Dancing on the high grass ridge

D
Making love down by the Cedar County Bridge

Repeat Chorus

Instrumental: G D C G D C-

Verse 3:

G
They never came to tear that old place down

D
They roped it off, but you can walk around

C
See the rust on the painted doors

G
Watch the rain fall through the burned out floors

Bmi
This was a town took care of it's own

C
This was a town doing fine all alone

G
The mill got out a quarter to five

         D
You could eat supper with any family you liked

Repeat Chorus

Outro: G D C G D C G

The whole CD is great. I will try to find time to post all the other songs.

Two lines that need to be corrected per the CD:

"See the dust on the rusted doors"

And in the last chorus - "Some nights I sit and watch this mill town die."
