***********************************************************************

E   D  A  Dbm  B  (repeat x 2)
INTRO

Verse 1
--------
       E                       D
It was Labor Day weekend I was seventeen,
A
I bought a coke and some gasoline,
E            D                 A     B
 And I drove out to the county fair.
E                      D
When I saw her for the first time
        A
She was standing there in the ticket line,
E           D                      A      B
 And it all started right then and there.
      A                 B
Ohh a sailor sky made a perfect sunset,
A                     B
And that's a day I'll never forget.

Chorus
-------
        E               B
I had a bbq stain on my white t-shirt,
        A                  B
She was killing me in that mini skirt.
E                     B                     Dbm   B  A  B
Skipping rocks on the river by the railroad tracks.
          E               B
She had a suntan line and red lipstick,
  F#m       Abm      A          B
I worked so hard for that first kiss,
     Dbm    B        A   B              E    D  A  Dbm  B
And a heart don't forget something like that.

Verse 2
--------
       E                     D
It was five years later on a southbound plane,
      A
I was headed down to New Orleans.
E                       D              A    B
To meet some friends of mine for Mardi Gras.
E              D
When I heard a voice from the past,
A
Coming from a few rows back,
           E                   D                 A
And when I looked I couldn't believe just what I saw.
          A                 B
She said "I bet you don't remember me."
          A                  B
And I said "Only every other memory".

*REPEAT CHORUS*

E   D   A   Dbm   B  (repeat x 2)
INSTRUMENTAL

F#m                             E
Like an old photograph time can make a feeling fade,
        A                        B
But the memory of the first love never fades away.

*REPEAT CHORUS*

Nobody can sing this song better than Tim McGraw. Good tab

-jeremy | 10/26/2004
good tab, much easier to play if you put the capo on 3 and convert the chords.
-T4TeeJ | 12/9/2004

-countrydude14 | 2/2/2005
what would be the notes if you put a capo on the 3rd fret?
-bmoney99 | 3/3/2005
Rick Ferrel Portsmouth ohio, wrote this and Tim McGraw doesn't do this song justice if you've ever heard Rick, Portsmouth Ohio, Hometown of Rick Ferrell, Earl THomas Conley

-eagle_cr_picker | 10/6/2003
the chords down at a capo three are
E=D
D=C
A=G
B=A
Dbm=Bm (i think)

as for the other ones someone else is gonna have to chime in, I claim to be no expert

In the bridge, instead of F#m, E, A, B try playing it F#m, E/G#, A, B. When I play this song on keys I play Gm, F/A, Bb, C. The walk up in the bass makes it sound better to me. May not be the same on guitar. Just a suggestion.
