Well, it rained all morning on the windowsill,
I sat and watched and played guitar until

Well, I gave up drinking ‘cause one’s too much,
And then the bottles, they don’t hold enough

Well, I grew up drinkin’ in a railroad town,
The trains all left and the yard shut down,

And then I played in bands and bars,
Accumulatin’ body shots and scars,
(G)Way of life, (Gj7) I sat and (D)drank all night.

It (Em7)took me years to (A)give it up,
(Em7) Well, I felt I might (A)lose her love,
Or my(D)self as well.

(G) I was livin’ a wino’s dream,
(D) Drownin’ in a whisky stream,

Well, it seems all alkies all like to swim,
Stay wet on the outside and dry within,

Lost in the rhythm and the weightless float.
