Intro: D chord hammering with index finger

D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
I grew up down an old dirt road in a town you wouldn't know.
        Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
My pops picked the place up for 15 hundred bucks back in 1964.
    D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
My grandfather was a drinker back in the day he put em down.
      Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
But a war is known to change a man and the whisky's known to change a man but….
Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
              no that's not me.
         Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
I rarely drink from the bottle but I'll smoke a little weed.
        Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9
I still live in the sticks where you wouldn't go in a town of 12 hundred down a
D Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
old dirt road cause a country boy is all I'll ever be.

D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
It's been 12 years since I sold my soul to the devil in L.A.
        Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
He said sign your name here on the dotted line and your songs they all will play.
   D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
He set up shop up Sunset he put me up in the marquee.
            Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
He said you wanna sell a million records boy better listen to me.
        Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
He said change your style, whiten your smile you could lose a couple pounds.
       Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9
If you wanna live this life you better lose that wife do you need your friends
D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
around..and I said….
            Cadd9 D
no that's not me.
     Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
Your biggest things in life are your friends and family.
      Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
And I like my jeans and my old tee shirt and a couple extra pounds never really
               Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
hurt because a country boy is all I'll ever be.

      F G D F
Cause Hank taught me just how to stay alive. You'll never catch me out the house
           G D
without my 9 or 45.
        F G F G
I got a big orange tractor and a diesel truck and my idea of heavens chasin white
            F G A
tail bucks. Country boy, I know I can survive.

    D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
Now two flags fly above my land that really sum up how I feel.
Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
One is the colors that fly high and proud the red the white the blue.
    D Cadd9 Cadd9/B
The other ones got a rattle snake with a simple statement made.
      Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
Don't tread on me is what it says and I'll take that to my grave.... Because
Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
               This is me.
        Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
Proud to be American and strong in my beliefs.
     Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9
I've said it before and I'll say it again because my family's always fought and
        D Cadd9 Cadd9/B Cadd9 D
died to save this land and a country boy is all I'll ever be

please help me understand your question. I tried to match the way he played it in the attached video. Please explain. What chords should there be??
-cntrypicker | 4/5/2011
I thought his voice sounded familiar. As far as chords go man, this is close enough if it isnt spot on. Thanks!
-parkayj | 10/6/2011
Hey man, this was a good job. I like it and think that it is pretty damn close!
-bucky548 | 12/21/2011
Your spot on with is man. no need for a capo and all that just drop D and a couple easy chords. Good job man!

Is there any way to transpose these chords for a beginner?
-poodydoo | 8/15/2012
only two chords need to be fixed. The Cadd9 and the D
instead of the regular Cadd9, place your middle finger on the 5th string 3rd fret, ring finger on the 2nd string third fret and pinky on 1st string 3rd fret.

D can be fixed by simply lifting your middle finger from the 1st string 2nd fret.

pretty easy fix and sounds about right to me...
