E A
They say he came out singing the moment he was born
             B7 E
And he could pick that old flat top guitar like a farmer pickin' corn
                                        A
And he'd sneak in those old honky tonks until they'd kick him out
         B7 E
And his daddy wonder how he learned all the stuff he sang about

CHORUS
E
He sang songs about dogs

Songs about drinking
A
Songs about mama's and trains
B7
Songs about heart broke country boys
                    E
Standin' out in the rain
E
Songs about dancehall beauty queens
       A
Worth geting into a fight
B7
Songs about nothing better to do
                      E
Songs about saturday night

When he turned 18 he went off to the war
His sweetheart wrote him letters she said she'd wait for sure
By the time he came back home, she was nowhere to be found
So he packed his bags hit them honky tonks from town to town

CHORUS

Well everywhere he went, everybody knew his name
But he never got the big hit, he stayed just the same
And he moved back to the country when it was time to call it quits
Now if you want to hear his music, you have to buy his greatest hits

CHORUS x2

This is nothing like he plays it...he capo's on the 4th fret and plays it in key of G

I've seen him play it live (the song is recorded live), and all I can say is that I tabbed it to the recorded version. I myself have seen him play it two different ways, but this is the way (or more specifically the key) he played it in on the album.

I myself capo 2 this song and play D G A7... and that still matches the recorded version. Next time I catch him in concert I'll make a note to watch him play this one again. Thanks for your comment.
