D D/F# G Asus A
INTRO

              D
You left your bible on the dresser,
     G D/F#
So I put it in the drawer.
     Em
'Cos I can't seem to talk to God
        Asus A
Without yellin' anymore.
       D
When I sit at your piano,
      Em D/F#
I can almost hear those hymns.
    G
The keys are just collecting dust,
    Asus A
But I can't close the lid.

            D
You left my heart as empty
     G D/F#
As a Monday morning church.
Em
It used to be so full of faith,
Asus A
Now it only hurts.
          D
And I can hear the Devil whisperin';
           E
Things are only gettin' worse.
    D/F# G
You left my heart as empty
     A D D/F# G Asus A
As a Monday morning church.

    D
The preacher came by Sunday,
            G D/F#
And said he missed me at the service.
Em
He told me Jesus loved me,
        Asus A
But I'm not sure I deserve it.
         D
'Cos the faithful man that you loved,
   Em D/F#
Is nowhere to be found.
         G
Since he took all that he believed,
Asus A
Laid it in the ground.

            D
And left my heart as empty
     G D/F#
As a Monday morning church.
Em
It used to be so full of faith,
Asus A
Now it only hurts.
          D
And I can hear the Devil whisperin';
           E
Things are only gettin' worse.
    D/F# G
You left my heart as empty
     A D
As a Monday morning church.

       C
Well I still believe in Heaven,
        D
And I'm sure you've made it there.
Em
But as for me without your love girl,
Asus A
I don't have a prayer.

            D
You left my heart as empty
     G D/F#
As a Monday morning church.
Em
It used to be so full of faith,
Asus A
Now it only hurts.
          D
And I can hear the Devil whisperin';
           E
Things are only gettin' worse.
    D/F# G
You left my heart as empty
     A D D/Db D/B D/A G
As a Monday morning church.

              D D/F#
You left your bible on the dresser,
     G D
So I put it in the drawer.

To all the struggling songwriters out there - this song is proof
that dreams CAN really come true. The writer of this song - Brent
Baxter - writes with of a good friend of mine and was just an unknown
like the rest of us. This song was his first cut ever and how amazing
to get it recorded by Alan Jackson! I had started to believe it was
impossible for stuff like this to happen but this is an inspiration
to all. And hey - it's an AWESOME song too!!!! Congrats Brent!

By the way, did I mention this tab is perfect??!

Let's not forget the other co-writer, Erin Enderlin. It's also her
first cut and now a single burning up the charts! Congrats Erin,
and all the RIM majors are proud of you!

I love Alan Jackson.
I went out and bought the new cd because I knew that it wouldn't be one of those one song albums that you waste your money on.
I was right.

This is a great tab, but I was just woundering if the line "as a monday morning church" should be an Em and the line "it used to be so full of faith" should be the G...... I think it sounds a little better. Let me know what you think
