Verse 1:
Em
Okay, I forgot about the trash,
A
I didn't trim the long hairs on my moustache.
Em B
I did buy you a ring; I believe it was back in '93.
Em
Alright, I admit it; I forgot our anniversary.
A
I did pick up the baby this morning at the nursery.
Em B Em
That ain't no big thing; It's a gold star for me.

Chorus:
A
You get tired and disgusted with me,
E
When I can't be just what you want me to be.
A
I still love you and I try real hard.
F#m B rundown to A
I swear, one day, you'll have a brand new car.
A
I even asked the Lord to try to help me:
E A
He looked down from Heaven, said to tell you please;
E B E
Just be patient, I'm a work in progress.

Repeat Intro 1x

Verse 2:
Em
I'm sorry I got mad, waitin' in the truck;
A
It seemed like hours, you gettin' all dressed up,
Em B
Just to go to Shoney's on a Wednesday night.
Em
I read that book you gave me about Mars and Venus;
A
I think it's sinkin' in but I probably need to re read it,
Em B Em
But I'm starting to see now, what you been saying is right.

Repeat Chorus

Instrumental Break

Repeat Intro

Verse 3:
Em
I know you meant well when you bought me those clogs,
A
But my heels get hot down by the muffler on my hog.
Em B
I'm sure they're stylish, but I'll take my boots.
Em
I try to do that health thing like you want me to do,
A
That low-fat, no fat's gettin' hard to chew.
Em
Now, I love your cookin', honey,
    B Em
But sometimes, I need some real food.

Repeat Chorus
E
Oh honey, just be patient, now,
B
I'm a work in progress.

Repeat Intro til fade

Oh, I need a major tune up.
Maybe a full, body-off, restoration.

-oldcountryboy | 11/20/2002
im not for sure but i do beleive all the Em's are actually just
plain E's just the way it sounds to me

-yinielin | 11/29/2002
Without playing along, I would also say the
F#m is just and F# and the B's would sound
better as B7's...
-lmofle | 12/27/2002
Contrary to what the other guy said, the Em and B sound better to me
and closer to what Jackson plays. But yeah, the F#m sounds better as
a F#.
