I'm gonna (C) tell you this story that I once read,
About this (F) cowboy who was a little messed up in the head,

Now (C) Odysseus weren't no cowboy name,
But he (F) sure could play that cowboy game,

He was (C) headed home from some far-off land,
Like (F) Mississippi or Tex-Arkana,
He was (D/F#) trying to get to Ithaca, in New York (G) State,
Met this (C) dude named Poseidon that almost drowned him,
But this (F) chick named Ino came along and found him…

What I liked (C) is when he met this girl named Circe, you know
She was all (F) hot and bothered and ready to go,
She (D/F#) invited all of his friends on over for (G) supper.
Turned his (C) buddies into pigs, and that's a fact,
So he (F) made love to her and she turned 'em back,
(D/F#) I guess he was pretty (G) good in the sack or (C) something.

(F) Odyss-(C)-eus, why (G) did you have to (C) go?
(F) Odyss-(C)-eus,  what-(G)-ever did you know?
(E) Odysseus, was (Am7) hard, (C7) Odysseus was (F) fast,
(C) That cowboy could (G) really kick some (C) ass.

Well he (C) wasn't really sure which way to head,
So for (F) directions he went to the kingdom of the dead,
I ain't (D/F#) sure where that is, but it sounds like (G) Florida.
His (C) momma lived there and she said hi,
He said (F) no momma, I'm here to see this other guy,
She said (D/F#) well, you're a real find son, then, aren't (G) you?

Finally (C) he found this guy that knew the way,
He said (F) now listen close to what I gotta say,
It's a (D/F#) long hard ride and you'll probably never even get (G) there.
And (C) all your friends they're all gonna die,
And (F) all you're gonna wanna do is sit and cry,
And (D/F#) Odysseus said now, hold up (G), I make a left (C) where?

So he (C) packed his bags and he saddled up,
And he was (F) headed out of town past this little club,
And from (D/F#) inside he heard this girl band called the (G) Sirens,
Well he (C) wanted to stay and hear a few,

So he (D/F#) threw this big old tantrum but then he got on back to (G) riding.

When he (C) got home all of these men were there,
Eating (F) all the food from his Frigidaire,
And not (D/F#) just two or three, but like forty-(G)-something.
They was (C) hitting on his wife and making a scene,
So he (F) killed them all and got away clean,
Didn't (D/F#) even have to do community service or (G) nothing.

His (C) wife said I been so faithful babe,
And he (F) said uh…. (D/F#) uh…. (G) me too.
Except for that (C) girl in that cave and a couple more,
And that (F) beautiful woman on that island shore…
For (D/F#) like two years….
Anyways, (D/F#) baby, I been (G) so faithful in my (C) heart
