David Allan Coe - Amanda

     D G D
I've held it all in me , God knows I've tried
                                 A D
But it's an awful awakening in a country boy's life
                           G D
To stare in the mirror, in total surprise
                                   A D
At this hair on my collar and this age in my eyes.

Chorus:
D G D
Amanda, light of my life
                            A D
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife
        G D
Amanda, light of my life
                            A D
Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

    D A
And I’ve got, a couple more, years on you babe and that’s all
                                                  D
I’ve had more chances to fly, and more chances to fall
                                                 A
I never learned how to run, but I learned how to crawl
                                                        D
And I’ve got a couple more years on you babe and that’s all.

D G D
There’s a measure of people, that don't understand
                           A D
The pleasures of life in a country rock band
                            G D
I got my first guitar, when I was thirteen
                              A G
Now I’m 62 years old, and I’m still pretty mean.

Good tab. Nothing tops Waylon's verssion, though. He's most famous for it.

I have not heard this version of this song, therefore I don't know if you made a few mistakes in the lyrics or if David Allan Coe sang different words. This is such a simple song and yet such a pretty song. Good job.
