Dreams Of Clay
By Dwight Yoakam
Written by Dwight Yoakam
CD: Second Hand Heart (2015)
Tabbed by Larry Mofle
12/12/15

Off the new album - a reprise from his 2000 release

Capo 2

G D
I'd been building hopes so long
         C D G
Honey, I must have lost sight of what went wrong
          G D
'Cause in sorrow's blinding light today
               C D G
Baby, it looks like my dreams were made of clay

Years of yearning spent for you
Honey, I know now were the cravings of a fool
I guess your wants just slipped away
And baby, it looks like my dreams were made of clay

Chorus:
G F C
I knew love could toss you down
F C
And leave you there to crawl around
F C G
But never thought that was a fall we'd make
G F C
    Getting up was nothing new
F C
The kind of thing heart's learn to do
F C D
But knowing how doesn't mean its easy to take

So I'll forget about plans we had for me and you
And dwell on thoughts lonely lives pursue
Praying memories don't stay
'Cause baby, it looks like our dreams were made of clay

Solo

Chorus

So I'll forget about plans we had for me and you,
And dwell on thoughts lonely lives pursue
Praying memories don't stay
'Cause baby, it looks like our dreams were made of clay

Yeah baby, it looks like our dreams were made of clay

Another excellent rendering by Mr. Mofle! And Dwight nicely nuanced the earlier version into an improved track as well. Thanks (again) for the skillful assist. The D at the end of the chorus resolves it all.
