He Stopped Loving Her Today
By George Jones
Tabbed By Larry Mofle
Tabbed 4/4/04

G# - 466544
C# - X46664
D# - X68886

                             G
He said I'll love you till I die
                              C
She told him you'll forget in time
                         D
As the years went slowly by
                          G
She still preyed upon his mind
                           G
He kept her picture on his wall
                        C
Went half crazy now and then
                              D
He still loved her through it all
                        G
Hoping she'd come back again

Key Change to G#

                         G#
Kept some letters by his bed
         C#
Dated 1962
                     D#
He had underlined in red
                    G#
Every single I love you
                         G#
I went to see him just today
                       C#
Oh but I didn't see no tears
                      D#
All dressed up to go away
                                 G#
First time I'd seen him smile in years

Chorus:
                      G# G#7
He stopped loving her today
                              C#
They placed a wreath upon his door
                            D#
And soon they'll carry him away
                      G#
He stopped loving her today

                                      G#
You know she came to see him one last time
                              C#
Oh and we all wondered if she would
                               D#
And it kept running through my mind
                            G#
This time he's over her for good

Chorus

I'd have to agree, the best love song of all times.
-chadebuchanan | 10/25/2005
this song is arguably the best ever. in it's simplicity it can convey so many emotions.
-snorris1 | 2/8/2006
A girl tried to sing this on Nashville Star- a TV show, and all she did was anger the judges. They said "You're walking on sacred ground" It really is a beautiful song

Not only is it the greatest song of country music it also has the strangest key change i've ever seen.

The version I had before I found this wasn't quite right and I didn't know what was wrong with it. I can't wait to try this one. Oh, and thanks for getting the lyrics right. The version I have is lyrically incorrect. I love depressing country songs and this is one of the best. (Second only to Whiskey Lullaby, but a very close second.)

I grew up with this country music, the old kind I mean, I get goose bumps with this one though. Ohhh
the good old days. Never be another. Like he said in another of he's great songs, "Who's gonna fill their shoes?".
