This song is played Capo 2 with the low E string open; this may be
George's career song and it's brand new, so hope y'all like it.

B>CAPO 2/B>

Intro: D-D/F#-G-A 2x

Verse 1:
     D D/F#
Well hope is an anchor, and love is a ship
  G A
Time is the ocean, and life is a trip
    D D/F#
You don't know where you're goin' till you know where you're at
       G A
And if you can't read the stars, well you better have a map
   Bm A
A compass and a conscience so you don't get lost at sea
    G
Or on some old lonely island where no one wants to be

Repeat Intro:

Verse 2:
         D D/F#
From the beginning of creation I think our maker had a plan
    G A
For us to leave these shores and sail beyond the sand
     D D/F#
And let the good light guide us through the waves and the wind
        G A
To the beaches in a world where we have never been
          Bm A
And we'll climb up on the mountain, y'all, we'll let our voices ring
      G
And those who never tried it, they'll be the first to sing

Repeat Intro

Chorus:
D D/F# G A
         Oh my, my
                    D D/F# G A
I'll see you on the other side, if I make it
                  D D/F# G A
And it might be a long hard ride but I'm gonna take it
                          Bm Bm/A G
Sometimes it seems that I don’t have a prayer
                        Bm B/A G
Let the weather take me an—-y--where
                   F D D/F#
But I know that I wanna go where the streets are gold ‘cause you'll be there
   G A
Oh my, my

Verse 3:
Well you don't bring nothin' with you here and you can't take nothin' back
I ain't never seen a hearse with a luggage rack
So I've torn my knees up prayin', scarred my back from fallin' down
Spent so much time flyin' high till I'm face first in the ground
So if you're up there watchin' me, would you talk to God and say
Tell Him I might need a hand to see you both some day...

Chorus 2 :
Oh my, my
So I'll see you on the other side, if I make it
And it might be a long hard ride ,but I wanna take it
Sometimes it seems that I don't have a prayer,
Let the weather take me anywhere,
But I know that I wanna go where the streets are gold, 'cause you'll be there
Oh my, my

'Cause you'll be there
Oh my, my

Verse and chorus 2 are same as 1
Outro: Bm-A-G-D/F#-G-D/F#-F-D

any idea where to hear this besides radio?
-jasteele10 | 3/30/2005
George's website (www.georgestrait.com) has a link on the bottom left corner of their page...you'll be hearing this song plenty on the radio soon, though, trust me.

-tyson125 | 3/31/2005
this is THE BEST song he's ever done in my opinion. I love this song. i think it's the best song ever
-Hank05 | 4/6/2005
I modified your Chorus slightly - hope you
don't mind - I also rated it a 10 because I
was going through the request list and this
song was on it so I tabbed it no knowing
yours was here and we're pretty much the
same except on the chorus - Great job!

-Sergio9603 | 4/15/2005
great job..this is an amazing song. to let ya know though in the third verse the words are "i've torn my knees up praying" instead of pulled.
-jawood1981 | 4/19/2005
OK, as of 4/21, all lyrical changes have been made...thanks and enjoy!

sad songs coming back into country music!
-WildCard76 | 4/26/2005
Hey i was just wondering what chord is B/A???

-wildbill2005 | 4/26/2005
I'm not sure about the Bm/A exactly...far as I knew that chord in the song was just a Bm, but hopefully we can clear that up.
-Sergio9603 | 4/26/2005
Only one thing to say brother, PERFECT!!!!
-VinceBarrientos | 4/26/2005
what an incredible song. knowing George's background I would think that he wrote it but does anybody know who did for sure?
-T4TeeJ | 4/28/2005
Wow, what a great song! He doesn't have anything like this, it's amazing, He ceases to amaze me!! The lyrics really got my attention cuz i lost my dad a couple years ago, which to me is just one more reason to wanna go to heaven...like this song says. AWESOME!! Go KING GEORGE!!
-dude0101 | 4/29/2005
all i gotta say is, he deserves for us to buy the c.d. And if George reads this, a few more albums would be alright with me and i'm sure for a bunch of your fans too. Thanx. Joel..
-gallos | 4/30/2005
I know it is early, but this has Song of the Year written all over it. I am wondering what kind of meaning this song may have to George, it seems as if he is singing to his late daughter. Again, fantastic song!

-jbr1993 | 6/15/2005
nm i found it. if you go to the top of the song and click on show chords used then it will show u all of the chords in the song
-jbr1993 | 6/15/2005
Well, for as promising as this song started out, it will only peak at #4. I, for one, am very disgusted and disappointed.
-Sergio9603 | 6/15/2005
i believe corey mayo wrote this song, and maybe his wife too, i'm not sure though. also if this song doesn't go #1, somebody should bomb nashville.
-str8country | 6/18/2005
thank you for doing this, i just love this song
-patrickcarp | 6/30/2005
thank you for doing this, i just love this song
-patrickcarp | 6/30/2005
You did a great job on the song, but in the chorus where you have an F it seems there should be some more chords there. It just doesn't sound right there to me. then what do I know? Does anyone have an incite to some more chords in this area? Thanks

-daisysdaddy | 7/24/2005
Well, I just wanna say thanks to all those who have the ear to make these tabs, I know my dad could... but he's technologically challenged ;) haha, but hey guys, George sang this song, and did a damn good job of it, but he didn't write it... give some credit to Cory Mayo... he deserves some credit for writing it!
-wh00p12 | 7/25/2005
yes cory mayo did write it. if any of you die hard george strait fans out there don't know this yet it will be a shocker but kenny chesney actually had this in reserve for himself to record on an upcoming alblum but he wasn't going to record for a while so when he heard the george was interested in it he gave it to him to record thanks kenny you did us all a favor. I think george just nails it and I hope it helps generate alblum sales for him and gives more lime light to cory for writing such an awesome song thanks man it gives me chills up y spine everytime I hear it.
