C
I was just a normal guy

Life was just a nine to five

With bills and pressure
               G
Piled up to the sky

She never asked

She knew Id been

Hanging with my wilder friends
                             C
Looking for some other way to fly

Three days straight was no big feat

To get by on no food or sleep
    F C Dm
And crazy was becoming my new norm
     C
Id pass out on the bedroom floor
       G C
And sleep right through the calm before the storm

(Chorus 1)
    F
My life was just an old routine
  G
Everyday the same damn thing
     C Bb F
I couldnt even tell I was alive
              C
I tell you the high cost of living
      G C
Aint nothing like the cost of living high

(Verse 2)
That southern baptist parking lot
Was where Id go to smoke my pot
And sit there in my pickup truck and pray
Staring at that giant cross
Just reminded me that I was lost
And it just never seemed to point the way
As soon as Jesus turned his back
Id find my way across the track
Looking just to score another deal
With my back against that damn eight ball
I didnt have to think or talk or feel

(Chorus 2)
My life was just an old routine
Everyday the same damn thing
I couldnt even tell I was alive
I tell you the high cost of living
Aint nothing like the cost of living high

(Verse 3)
My whole life went through my head
Laying in the motel bed
Watching as the cops kicked in the door
I had a job and a piece of land
My sweet wife was my best friend
But I traded that for cocaine and a w***e
My new found sobriety
I got the time to sit and think
Of all the things I had and threw away
This prison is much colder than
That one that I was locked up in just yesterday

(Chorus 3)
My life is just an old routine
Everyday the same damn thing
Hell I cant even tell if Im alive
I tell you the high cost of living
Aint nothing like the cost of living high
I tell you the high cost of living
And nothing like the cost of living high

I would walk down the F - where you have a C, try F/E xx2X11 into the Dm

F F/E Dm
And crazy was becoming my new norm

Also, as he exits the verses, there is a Bb before the F on the 1st line of each chorus

it is the key of "C" but he plays capo 3 key of "A" so the verses go A, E, A, D, Bm A, E, A and the chorus is D,E, A, G, D, A, E, A.
