I've played it the way you have here, and it sounds good, except the F# he hammers on lightly on the very first chord. The only way I could do that was without the capo playing a D chord. So I played along with no capo using D, A, G, Bm. The little run he does before he sings "to Harlan Howard... is all played on the B string, it goes B, C#, D,E,D... Now I know you're gonna say, but he plays it with a capo on the 2nd fret, but if you listen to the album version, there is no capo.
