Yes, it CAN be no capo in E but when you listen close to the strings, I hear higher notes than an E can provide.

This YouTube link will take you a really good cover video of this song, and the guy in the video doesn't use a capo. It's not a matter of which ones right it's about what matches your voice if you are singing along. Play around with it and see what works best.
