John Prine (As done by Dave MAtthews Band)

INTRO G-C-G-C G-C-D-G X2

G C G C
I am a old woman, named after my mother
G C D G
My Old man is another Child grown old
G C G C
If dreams were lightening and thunder desire
G C D G
This old house would have burnt down a long time ago

(Chorus)
G F C G
Make me a angel that flies from montgomery
G F C G
Make me a poster of an old rodeo
G F C G
Just give me one thing that I can hold onto
G F C G
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go
G-C-G-C G-C-D-G

(Verse)
When I was a young girl,had me a cowboy
wasn't much to look at, just a free ramblin' man
But that was a long time, and no matter how I try
The years just flow by like a broken-down dam

(Chorus)

There's flies in the kitchen, I can hear em, they’re buzzin’
But I ain't done nothin' since I woke up today
I the hell can a person goes to work in the morning
Come home in the evenin' and have nothin' to say

(Chorus)

The second line of the chorus works well with G F D G.

I also play D7 instead of D in the verses.

just for the record, DMB was covering John Prine, not the other way around

That's right. Dave Matthew's Band copies
everybody. I say copy, not cover. Dave Matthews has a voice that sounds like
someone is drowning him. He ruins all the
songs that he covers. John Prine's better.
But, good tab, though. I have a live recording of this song. John Prine, of course, he's singing it as a duet with someone else.

He is singing with Bonnie Raitt
