MAN IN BLACK
JOHNNY CASH

I figured I'd put the right chords here.It started to
bother me that the other tab was in C.It's in Bb. There's
many videos that show John performing on stage, and the I
saw one that showed the first time he performed it to an
audience, and he was playing in Bb.It sounded like the
studio recording. You might see one of his shows where the
capo is on the second fret, but he wrote the song in Bb.

Listen for the walkdowns. The other tab has missed those
also.I don't have them here,but I'm letting you know
that I didn't miss them. It's something that you should
judge your own ears and preference. Also:
Alternate picking the root and the fifth of the chord,
and strumming. root-strum, fifth-strum, which makes
the boom-chicka-boom.

CAPO FRET 3: KEY OF Bb/PLAY G

         G
Well you wonder why I always dress in black
                                      A
Why you never see bright colors on my back
    C G C G
And why does my appearance seem to have a sombretone
               A D7
Well there's a reason for the things that I have on.

  G
I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down
                                     A
Livin in the hopeless hungry side of town
  C G C G
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime
       A D7
But is there because he's a victim of the times

  G
I wear the black for those who've never read
                                    A
Or listened to the words that Jesus said
 C G C G
About the road to happiness through love and charity
          A D7
Why you'd think he's talking straight to you and me

           G
Well we're doing mighty fine I do suppose
                                          A
In our streak of lightning cars and fancy clothes
    C G C G
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back
   A D7
Up front there oughtta be a MAN IN BLACK

  G
I wear it for the sick and lonely old
                                               A
For the reckless ones who's bad trip left them cold
  C G C
I wear the black in mourning for the lives that could've
G
been
     A D7
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men

      G
And I wear it for the thousands who have died
                                     A
Believing that the Lord was on their side
  C G C G
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died
  A D7
Believing that we all were on their side

             G
Well there's things never will be right I know
                                        A
And things need changing everywhere you go
     C G C G
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right
       A
You'll never see me wear a suit of
D7
white

        G
Aw! I'd love to wear a rainbow everyday
                                     A
And tell the world that everything's O.K.
         C G C G
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back
                D7 G
'Til things are brighter, I'm the MAN IN BLACK

Yeah,I'll have to dig the recording out of
my lengthy Johnny Cash collection. I can post it, or maybe ask tyler1501 to post the
lead guitar tab. John's guitar playing is
basically pick the root of the chord, then
strum, then pick the fifth of the chord, and
strum. For this song, pick the G note on the
g-chord for the root, and the d-note for the bass(with the capo). Bob Wootton's picking is different. It's good to know that
there's interest in this song. It's the
essence of Johnny Cash. Thanks for the comment.
