X is a chord I don't know the name of, you play it like this:
e:-----2-----
B:-----4-----
D:-----4-----
G:-----2-----
A:-----2-----
E:-----2-----

Mountain of Love
    ( Johnny Rivers )
    E
Standin' on a mountain lookin' down on a city
    E
The way I feel is a doggone pity
    A
Teardrops fallin' down the mountain side
    E
Many times I've been here, many times I've cried
    X A
We used to be so happy when we were in love
    E X E
High on a mountain of love

    A G#
Mountain of love, the mountain of love
    A X
    You should be ashamed
    A G#
You used to be a mountain of love
    A G#
But you just changed your name

    E
Way down below there's a half a million people
    E
Somewhere there's a church with a big tall steeple
    A
Inside the church, there's an altar filled with flowers
    E
Wedding bells are ringin' and they should've been ours
    X A
That's why I'm so lonely, my dream is gone above
    E X E
High on a mountain of love

     Back to Chorus

    E
Night after night I'm a-standin' here alone
    E
Weepin' out my heart 'til the cold grey dawn
    A
Prayin' that you're lonely and you'll come here too
    E
Hopin' just by chance that I'll get a glimpse of you
    X A
Trying hard to find you somewhere up above
    E X E
High on a mountain of love

That X Cord is a F#m
-Ray Terry | 5/26/2008
But the chord should be a B7. The verse is a standard 12 bar progression.
E - 4 Bars
A - 2 Bars
E - 2 Bars
B7 - 1 Bar
A - 1 Bar
E - 1 Bar
B7 - 1 Bay

1 Bar = ////

Cord Progression for the Chorus - Is (A-G#m)-(A-G#m)-(A-G#m)-A-B7

This is the way I hear the song

Sorry guys was a little bit sloppy, I fixed it up though. I tried B7 and F#m on the piano, didn't really fit
-Huch776 | 5/28/2008
The X chord you had listed 2-4-4-2-2-2 is an F#m, but you are right it is not an F#m. Play on a guitar and I think the B7 works.
